President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite.

Uzoka-Anite has been reassigned to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third portfolio under the current administration.

The President conveyed Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Profile of the Nominee

Until his nomination, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led efforts to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system.

The 50-year-old economist and public policy expert hails from Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State. He holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

He also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Corporate and Academic Experience

Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, joining the firm in 2001 and rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.

Beyond corporate practice, he is a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and serves as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.

His nomination is expected to strengthen ongoing fiscal and tax reform efforts as the administration seeks to stabilise public finances and boost revenue generation.

A Well-Deserved Recognition for Taiwo Oyedele

When a high-powered committee—comprising members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), labor unions, the private sector, and over 40 other stakeholders—was tasked with reviewing and harmonizing the nation’s tax system, the process was bound to face scrutiny. Yet, when the pressure mounted and critics began claiming the tax bill was flawed, Taiwo Oyedele stood alone.

While others wavered, he remained firm, insisting there was nothing fundamentally wrong with the bill. He argued that any minor issues could be addressed without discarding the entire effort—without throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

For his courage, conviction, and commitment to progress, this recognition is well deserved. Once again, congratulations to a man who stood his ground when it mattered most.

Taiwo is a good guy, the type of people you need in any working government. Taiwo as substantive minister of finance and Doris as the minister of state will be a good combination.

The first thing I wanted to say was “government of the Yoruba, by the Yoruba and for the Yoruba”.

But the truth is that Taiwo Oyedele deserves every elevation he gets.

Man has delivered on the Tax Reform without insulting anybody or tribe or divide. His communication has been impeccable.

Unlike Tinubu supporters, we recognize people that are good irrespective of where they are.

Taiwo Oyedele, the FIRS Chairman and the Minister of Interior, Tunji-Ojo, three of them have been impeccable and I don’t mind them rising to any height.

Well deserved appointment. A brilliant tax man.

Well deserved mr Taiwo Oyedele.. man really did a tremendous job.. at a time seemed the whole country was against him and his tax reforms but he kept on explaining here and there without being wearing out.. very daunting task
