First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu Urges Nigerians To Drop ‘Entitlement Mentality’ by SlavaUkraini(op): 7:01am On Mar 06
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to abandon what she described as an “entitlement mentality,” stressing the need for citizens to embrace responsibility, integrity and service in their various roles.

This was made known in a statement on Thursday signed by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi.

The statement said Oluremi Tinubu made the call while hosting an interfaith Breaking of Fast (Iftar/Lent) for women, drawn from different sectors across the country.

Speaking during the gathering, the First Lady said the coincidence of the Muslim Ramadan fast and the Christian Lenten season carries an important message for the nation about unity and peaceful coexistence.

“Today, like I said, is indeed a great day. It is a day that God only made for us to gather together, and for women, first, from different backgrounds. Since the Ramadan fast was announced, and the Lenten season began together, it was like God was speaking to us as a nation,” she said

She noted that despite attempts by some people to create division along religious lines, Nigerians have historically lived together peacefully regardless of their faiths.

“Recently, we know a lot of things have been going on and people are trying to target towards our religious beliefs… And we Nigerians, we know that most of the time that is not the case. Some of us are married to men of different faiths, and we lived together among us for many years. Me, almost 40 years,” she noted.

Drawing from her personal experience, the First Lady referenced her nearly four decades of marriage to Bola Tinubu, explaining that mutual respect and understanding have helped sustain their relationship.

And I can tell you, I cannot remember when both of us raised our voices at each other. Maybe not more than twice in the 40 years, I can tell you that.

“So we’ve been quite mature and respectful about that. And I believe that’s the best way to live together,” she added.

Senator Tinubu also urged Nigerians to abandon what she described as an “entitlement mentality,” stressing that citizens must focus on contributing positively to society.

She also encouraged women whose husbands hold public offices, as well as those occupying leadership positions, to recognise their roles in promoting responsible leadership and national development.

“Most women in this room, either you have your own office, or your husband is in the public office… you as the wife has the role to play,” she added.

She further stressed the need for Nigerians to mentor younger generations, noting that the country’s future depends on the guidance and values passed on to them.

In a lecture delivered at the event, a Director at the National Open University of Nigeria, Prof. Ganiyat Adejoke Adesina-Uthman, raised concerns about what she described as a crisis of trust in public office.

Speaking on the topic, “Serving with Excellence, Compassion and Integrity in Public Life On excellence,” she emphasized that integrity remains a non-negotiable value for anyone in public service

Emilokan is an entitlement mentality. What the citizens are yearning for, needs to be addressed without screaming for it.
Re: First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu Urges Nigerians To Drop ‘Entitlement Mentality’ by Charley2020: 7:34am On Mar 06
Good advice she shared, but where there's poverty, unexpected problems arise. The biggest mistake she made was expecting the average Nigerian to live like her, which isn't possible.

She's married to a wealthy man. Of course it'll be easier for her to maintain a healthy relationship with him. Rich people do have marital problems as well, but it's easier to avoid or prevent those problems when money isn't an issue.

But your husband is entitled to 10% tax from lagosians through alpha beta a.k.a criminal state capture.
Your husband is entitled to lording over a state that isn't his. Just because one woman adopted him.

Haaaa...

Funsho Williams you should have been more careful. If only you knew how desperate this man was to keep lagos in chains. You should have ensured you had serious security.

And this is atikus fault as well he helped support Tinubu to control Lagos. Now that one has snatched and grabbed his dream to be president

Nobody is asking the government what they didn't deserve.

All we say is...

Protect the lives and properties of Nigerians which is the primary job of the government, travelling by road around the NW, NE and other parts of Nigeria is now amongst ways to unalive. The time for sharing rice is here again and you're forewarning Nigerians not to be entitled as usual.

Just do the right thing. Be accountable!

Reasonable people will understand the context.

Offcourse, her detractors, mostly in opposition will twist it as usual and use it for campaign.

Its very obvious from the headline.Off everything she said, that is the only "twistable" line the mischievous journalist and OP could use as headline

The most entitled leader in Nigerian recorded history is your husband.

Emilokán translated in English is "it is my turn" what can be more individualistic, opportunistic and entitled as that speech made in the glare of over 180m Nigerians.

I am sure she made the statement after a cup of Arabian Tea.

In Nigeria, criminals are the ones that call the shots and the people worship them. Nigerians worship those who enslave them. No Nigerian leader loves Nigerians or Nigeria, they only come to steal and go. That has been the trend. No one truly cares.

Re: First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu Urges Nigerians To Drop ‘Entitlement Mentality’ by untoldtruth: 7:45am On Mar 06
"It is my turn!"
Alexa, what do you reckon this statement structure constitutes of?

ALEXA:

In a political context, the phrase "it is my turn" (popularly known in Nigeria as Emi Lokan) implies a sense of personal entitlement to power based on long-standing service, loyalty, or internal power-sharing agreements within an elite group

Anti-Democratic Sentiment: Critics argue it prioritizes personal entitlement over meritocracy and the actual will of the voters.

Transactional Politics: It reinforces the view that leadership is a "turn-by-turn" arrangement for elites to "chop" (benefit from) state resources rather than a commitment to public service.

We can't shout anymore, I need this woman to disappear the way that her son's initial gra gra also did, mtchewww 🚶🚶🚶🚶🚶
