To cover the real operation or to divert attention elsewhere. They know that naturally Iran will setup an investigation on how they attack occurred.

For me, the rocket attack was fired from inside Iran and it was a medium range rocket not the nonsense space rocket that was reported. Also there are Mossad agents within the current Iranian govt that gave out info on the meeting actual time and location.

Another reason why they do this fake information release all the time is to protect their agents from being being fished out.
