Kids Born Deaf Hear for the First Time as Obasanjo Foundation Wraps Mega Medical Outreach, Touching 10,000 Families in Lagos

In one of the largest humanitarian medical interventions recently witnessed in Lagos State, the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation has concluded a six-day free health outreach, directly impacting approximately 10,000 families across three communities. The initiative, which ran from February 27th to March 4th, 2026, was organized to mark the 89th birthday of the Foundation’s Founder, former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

Rather than a ceremonial celebration, the Foundation opted for a large-scale service delivery, bringing free medical care to thousands in Ijede, Imota, and Alimosho. The outreach provided a comprehensive range of services, from cardiovascular screenings to life-changing eye and ear care, all at no cost to the beneficiaries.

The medical mission kicked off at dawn on February 27th at the Ijede Local Council Secretariat in Ikorodu. For six consecutive days, teams of medical professionals worked from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., first in Ijede, then moving to the Imota Mini-Stadium, and finally settling in for a three-day stretch at the Alade Stadium in Agbado/OkeOdo LCDA, Alimosho.

At each location, a well-oiled system ensured that the massive crowds, consisting of elderly citizens, artisans, traders, and children, were attended to efficiently. Beneficiaries underwent structured screenings and consultations before receiving prescribed medications on the spot.

While general medical consultations and cardiovascular screenings were crucial for early detection of conditions like hypertension, the outreach’s most profound impacts were in the specialized fields of eye and ear care. The Foundation’s vision restoration effort was a resounding success. Over 5,000 individuals had their eyes examined, with thousands receiving free prescription glasses on-site. In a move that will have a lasting impact, more than 300 beneficiaries with more serious conditions have been formally scheduled for fully sponsored eye surgeries.

Equally significant was the hearing care program. Recognizing the prohibitive cost of quality hearing aids in the Nigerian market, the Foundation undertook an extraordinary commitment. More than 1,500 hearing aids, with an economic value running into hundreds of millions of naira, were distributed completely free of charge.

According to Dr. Olalekan Makinde, CEO of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, the 10,000 families directly served represent a much wider transformation. “The indirect impact is immeasurable,” Dr. Makinde stated. “A treated father returns to work healthier. A grandmother regains clear hearing and renewed confidence. A child sees and hears properly in school. Each restored life creates ripple effects across households, touching millions beyond the immediate beneficiaries.”

The Foundation praised the meticulous planning and volunteerism that made the large-scale operation seamless and orderly. As follow-up processes begin for the scheduled surgeries, the OOF says the legacy of the outreach will be felt for years to come.

“It was leadership expressed through compassion,” the statement concluded, “and transformation, when multiplied across 10,000 families, becomes legacy.”

Perhaps you didn't read many of how the church has been donating well equipped medical facilities to the government freely. You don't expect everything to be glorified by the media.
I understand the target there is "arrangee miracles"; which is noted. Even in our daily hussle, there are dishonest people let alone churches which are made up of people.

Please , wanted to ask; will God still bless this work of his hands if he happens to have gotten the wealth illegally through corruption?

Chief, I am one of the biggest critics of pastorprenuers and churches in Nigeria but this your comment no really make sense.
Firstly, churches are not your elected officials and as such, they owe you nothing. Donation is a personal thing.
Secondly, who told you Churches aren't doing this and even more? If you must banter churches with whatever things you like, philanthropy shouldnt be one of them, they are trying!

Mine was in Kaduna state,I saw it on Facebook I went and register from 7am I was there till 9pm God was so kind to I was the last of all to get it,Omo the joy is so unspeakable.
I lost my hearing from childhood the stigma was real, but I overcame it lastly,I pray help come your way soon.
I can volunteer to gift you one I based in kaduna.but your hearing status need to be tasted so that an aid suitable to your hearing could be administered.concerning your question
They can still attend to you as a non indigene because when I did mine in Kaduna two years ago people from borno,Adamawa, yobe and even Abuja was present.
It's on basis of first come first serve, but the scheme is ficking compromise because criminals distributes to ghost patients.
