ABUJA — The Nigerian political landscape was rocked on Saturday following strong indications that the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, is finalised plans to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the National Democratic Coalition (NDC).
The move, coming barely months after Obi joined the ADC, signals a major fracture in the opposition’s attempt to form a formidable “Mega Party” to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Insiders close to the former Anambra State Governor revealed that the decision to exit the ADC stems from a deepening rift over the party’s 2027 presidential ticket. Sources allege that the ADC structure has been “hijacked” by loyalists of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, creating a climate that Obi’s supporters believe is designed to shut him out of the primary process.

How does Peter Obi intend to reach the grassroots if he keeps hopping from one party to another?

We must remember that elections in this country are won by the rural voters—the grandmas and grandpas in the villages. Many of these people are used to the "Umbrella" logo. If proper sensitization isn't done regarding his transition, they will simply thumbprint the "Umbrella" on election day, oblivious to the fact that their candidate has moved to the "Handshake" party.

The logo is what stays in their minds, not the man. If he is serious about 2027, he needs to start his grassroots mobilization now. Time is not on his side.

The new electoral act already gave him a lifeline with the direct primaries, all that is required of him is to put in the hard work of convincing party delegates across the length and breadth of the country but we all know he’s a lazy politician who wants everything handed to him on a platter.

No, He still can be President.
Afterall, Buhari did not get it @First attempt.

However he need to work with the Right Opposition party.
ADC is full of either PDP or APC ex-members, making them look disorganized.

This NDC is well managed can be a Force to reckon with.
They should not admit the likes of El-Rufai, Amaechi and other Old brigade Politician.

It's common sense that Atiku owns ADC. I was hoping Obi would atleast be vice president, but Amaechi and the SS don chance am.
