France and the UK helped create the messy situation that has been unfolding in the Middle East since 1948. They supported the creation of Israel, which came at the expense of the Palestinians.

Why didn’t they offer one of their own territories (perhaps in Europe or on one of their Pacific islands) to Jewish survivors after World War II?

Taking a step back, one could argue that the UK and France might even have created Israel earlier, in 1919, just after World War I. At that time, Britain was extremely powerful on the international stage. The British Empire controlled vast territories across multiple continents, as well as islands in the Pacific and the Atlantic.

There is nothing like Palestine. It was a name coined by the Romans for the region. Historically, those people came from displacement due to wars long after Israelites have settled in the land of Canaan.
