You raise the point of quodcopters do you understand that Nigeria has issued the EDM4S SkyWiper and Greetwin 8 anti-drone jammer to troops to engage drones used by bandits?

Picture 1 and 2 are of the EDM4S SkyWiper

3 and 4 are of the Greetwin 8 anti-drone jammer
The anti drone jammer, is it for Air defense or ground defense because that's what my arguments have been about, don't just know why naptu want to be twisting it

The first statement in your post is a lie. Nigeria had many international threats between 1960 and 1999 and Nigerian troops were involved in many such actions (and some died in battle).
Which country do we have a face to face battle before ??
Our troops died when they're on peace keeping mission. See the summary of the research of an AI.

Summary
1. The claim that Nigeria has not faced international military threats since 1960 and resolves foreign issues diplomatically is largely genuine.

2. The idea that internal security challenges like Boko Haram can be solved solely by a well-equipped police force is an oversimplification; a multifaceted security approach is required.

3. Nigeria's investment in military equipment to combat internal threats is a reasonable and necessary measure given the current security environment.
Re: Nigeria's Air Defence Systems by ariesbull: 7:34am On Mar 09
In my opinion, the rise of Shahed drones shows a major shift in modern warfare, but it does not actually make air defense useless. What it really does is expose how traditional air-defense systems were designed for a different type of threat. Systems built during the Cold War were mainly intended to stop fast jets, cruise missiles, or ballistic missiles, not slow, inexpensive drones that can be launched in huge numbers.

One of the biggest issues is the cost imbalance. A single Shahed drone can cost tens of thousands of dollars, while the missiles used by systems like the Patriot missile system or NASAMS can cost hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars. When defenders are forced to shoot expensive interceptors at very cheap drones, the attacker gains a huge economic advantage. Even if most drones are shot down, the defense may still be losing the financial battle.

Another reason these drones seem so effective is that they are often used in large waves. During the Russian invasion of Ukraine, large groups of drones have been launched at the same time to overwhelm defenses. Air-defense radars and missile systems have limits on how many targets they can track and intercept at once, so saturation attacks increase the chances that some drones will slip through.

Their flight characteristics also make them tricky to deal with. Drones like the Shahed-136 fly relatively slowly and close to the ground, which can make them harder for radar systems to detect clearly. Many radar systems are optimized to detect faster threats, so small propeller drones can blend in with background noise or terrain. Their small size and simple design also mean they are harder to track than larger aircraft.

However, saying that air defense is useless against them would be an exaggeration. In fact, modern conflicts are showing that layered defense works much better. Systems such as the Gepard have been very effective because they use cheaper ammunition instead of expensive missiles. Machine guns, autocannons, electronic jamming, and even interceptor drones can all help counter these threats.

Overall, I think Shahed drones represent a shift toward cheaper, mass-produced weapons that challenge traditional defense strategies. They force militaries to rethink how they defend airspace and to develop more cost-effective ways of stopping drones. Air defense is still important, but it has to evolve to deal with this new kind of threat.

I'm going to first give you the philosophical basis before I give you the incidents.

You have a house and your house has doors, walls and gates, why? It's to prevent armed robbers from coming to rob you.

It's the same with countries. Resource rich countries need armed forces to prevent other countries from invading their land and stealing their resources.

1) Cameroon: There were very many military clashes between Nigeria and Cameroon over the Bakasi Peninsula from around 1975 till the late 1990s. Cameroonian gendarmes would attack Nigeria, the Nigerian military would repel them, etc.

I had a friend in the Navy that said that they made many requests to Abacha for a new generator for their ship but they didn't receive any response. Then Cameroon attacked again and they got a brand new generator. They didn't know where it came from (Nigeria was under sanctions), but I heard rumours that it came through the Chagourys.

Anyway, there were many clashes, many troops died due to th3 Bakasi issue. It was because Cameroon realised that they couldn't take it by force, due to our military, that they eventually went to court.

2) Chad: Chadian forces invaded Borno in April 1983. President Shagari ordered the 3rd Armoured Division to chase them away. The GOC was Muhammadu Buhari. Buhari did not just chase them away, he invaded Chad.

Foreign countries put pressure on Shagari to withdraw from Chad.

3) Tongeji Island: It is an oil rich island in Ogun State. Benenoise gendarmes have often invaded the island and harrassed the locals. The Nigerian Navy had to build a base there.

There are more and I'll post them when I get back

Nigeria doesn't need sophisticated air defense systems. All the coubtries close by can't manage an attack on or Against Nigeria.

The ones that are far away that can manage it want be stopped by the air defense system anyway.

Ukraine couldn't do much and still can't do much to stop Russia from banning them.

Same for Iran
Wetin the countries go gain by attacking a country that is already at war with itself?

Nigeria needs no extra war, the internal one alone go break

Opposition politics makes people sound stupid most of the time in their quest to always want to be quicker at attacking an issue than understand ing it.Its one of the laziest way to sound pseudointelligent to ignorant and layman audience.

In 1999 many people (including Professor Wole Soyinka) said that Nigeria did not need a military. They said that nobody was coming to attack us and that the military only stage coups. I was alarmed.

Today, without our military, Boko Haram would have been in control of Lagos, Port-Harcourt, Abuja, Enugu and other cities.

The point is that you don't prepare for what is on ground today, you prepare for what could be on ground tomorrow.

Iran spent a lot on its military, it didn't stop them from getting bombed, but it has so far stopped them from collapsing and it has made the exercise painful for its enemies (which increases its chances of survival).
NATO relied on the US for decades and now they are having to arm up
at the start of WW2 britain had to manage hitler while they started building up their war machine
most of asia did not have a proper military in ww2 so it was easy for a tiny nation like japan to steamroll them and start turning their women into comfort women among other atrocities

the real argument against militarization is always that money is limited and you have to ask if this is the most efficient use of my limited capital
Re: Nigeria's Air Defence Systems by amstamon: 7:57am On Mar 09
So what is the use of all this if citizen are dying like chicken.
Abi is it not for the protection of citizen this weapons /gadgets are been acquired?
If the operators of this machines cannot even face the terrorist that is killing the citizens in thousands , what then is the use of this weapons.
I Sha no Wan hear say the terorist is been mix within the civilians.
Then systematically flush them out and send them to their maker instead of showcasing useless machines that's useless while millions are dying and billions are been paid to this terrorist.

Bro, Who are you? You seem to be a military contractor or an ex. Officer. All these information are highly confidential but you brought them here in the open without anyone asking.

Anyway, thanks for making us to know that Nigeria really achieved a great military hardware acquisition during the military era and presently sourcing more to acquire.

My important discovery is that Nigeria as a country seemed to have achieved a great feats while under military rules than the civilian regimes.

Nigeria woes of poverty really started during the time of the civilian/democracy era. I could remember then during military rule when brilliant students in Nigeria universities were being awarded scholarships to go study various courses abroad and they always come back to practice whatever they learnt abroad.

I am not an advocate of military rule but they have actually done so much better and this should be a challenge to our civilian alleged democratically elected government.

It's a shame that no great achievement has been or was achieved ever since IBB left that leadership role in the eighties.

It's sad that we are still battling with NNPC refineries, NEPA grids, National Art Theater, Ajaokuta, Nigeria Railway lines, Nigeria housing schemes...Festac etc......kainji dam, Abuja, Aso Rock.......to your amazement, all these listed projects were all done by the military and nothing has ever come close or created by the alleged democratically elected civilians regimes.

Despite all the atrocious attributes of the military leaders, it's so overwhelming that they have done so much for this country than any civilian regime that is in place and those gone already.

Nigeria leaders must wake up.....

Mind you, it's not a curse o.

Check the amount of dollars countries producing these weapons are charging, are they manufacturing them to window dress or what?

Also, they retained some of the weapons for their domestic use while lookin for customers e.g. see China & France pursuing Nigeria to come & buy, is that not a business?

Let's face it, they are even behind these wars all over the world.

Have we ask ourselves where all these ISWAP, BOKO HARAM, BANDITS e.t.c get their weapons from .

If there is peace, they will instigate one country against another so as to sell & make profits.

So, Bros! There can never be peace oo...........

3) Aspide missile system.

One of the reasons that NNS Aradu was so good was because it was a large multi-purpose frigate.

It had torpedos, depth charges and a helicopter for anti-submarine warfare, it had anti-ship missiles and multiple guns for surface warfare and it had this for anti-aircraft duties.

These were also on our fast missile crafts.

Aspide missiles

It had Plessey AWS 5 air/surface search radar and Signaal STIR fire control radar.
Do we have a replacement for NNS Aradu , also is Nigeria thinking of acquiring a submarine?

The problem remains the insiders in the government and military who give information out and sabotage the military. You don't understand what an informed enemy can accomplish. Even with the most advanced military gear, you'd be beaten black and blue when your side has such handicap

Nigeria bought a lot of military equipment when I was a kid. This was especially so in the period between 1975 and 1985 (when most of the orders were made).

The military governments of that era made it seem as if Nigeria was under threat of imminent attack. Therefore they took steps to protect our national assets. I knew all these facilities that the military governments were trying to protect and I knew which unit was responsible for protecting what.

For example, the Kainji Dam was Nigeria's biggest powet plant at the time (it was later surpassed by the Egbin Power Plant). The Federal Military Government built an air force base at Kainji (with its own runway), it built an army base and it deployed air defence systems to protect the dam. Air defence systems were also deployed to protect the international airports in Lagos and Kano.

I became interested in these things when someone that was in the navy told me that the Nigerian Navy's sea to air missiles were kept at a particular location in Apapa. This was in the early 1980s.

In fact, back then, critics of the Federal Military Government accused the government of spending more on weapons than on education and healthcare.

Nigeria suffered an economic crisis that began in 1982. Military spending reduced after that. Things became worse after the June 12, 1993 elections were annulled. Many countries subsequently imposed sanctions on the Nigerian Military. The supply of military equipment dried up (apart from the 1988 Vickers Main Battle Tank contract).

In more recent times Chinese and European companies have been competiting for contracts to upgrade Nigeria's air defence systems. The Federal Government wants to replace those air defence systems of my childhood and the Chinese and European companies are presenting a range of medium and long range missiles and radar systems. (I have previously created threads about Nigerian officials inspecting these systems in Europe and China).

The military is also working on a total military radar coverage of Nigeria (MTRACON) and these new systems will be used to achieve the objective.

This thread will contain photos and videos of the air defence systems from my childhood and of the new air defence systems that the Nigerian military is considering.
Nice one I love this.

Any country whose aircraft can reach us without us taking those aircraft out will easily sidestep whatever air defense system we have. Note that no country on the continent is on that list.

Iran spent billions on air defense, didn't stop then from getting bombed, same with Isreal, Saudi Arabia, UAE etc
On this you're wrong... you actually think that air defence systems are "foolproof" and they some how "immune" countries from being bombed! Nope!

Imagine Israel without air defence systems and you will see why you're missing the point! Imagine all the barrage of missiles that rain from Iran and ask how come there is still a building standing!

Countries are modernizing their military everyday and saying no country close by can attack us is...hmmm
