Do This Day's Mother's Still Maintain Sunday Rice Tradition? by bigpicture001(op): 4:55pm On Mar 08
Growing up in the 80's ND 90's it was almost a sin for your mother not to serve the family the special and week long awaited delicacies of a Sunday rice.. it got so customary that your child will cry if you dnt follow up with this tradition.

It was so addictive that it got even Christmas involved that Christmas must b a rice eating holiday... Now, with the advent of new ideology led mother's ND facing very harsh economy, I want to know from our various new families, do wives keep to this long standing tradition?

In the 90s, rice wasn’t a common food and stood as a food of affluent cos many parents didn't have the financial power to afford eating it 3 or 4 times a week. Nowadays, rice is such a common food such that it can be eaten 2 times daily. The commonness has made it to lose its Sunday Sunday value and taste.

No matter how many times I eat rice during the week, Sunday rice is a must. And somehow my wife tends to prepare it in a more delicious manner that makes it taste better than any other time during the week

Re: Do This Day's Mother's Still Maintain Sunday Rice Tradition? by richiemcgold:
The reason is because rice was a luxury in those days. Especially Uncle Ben's rice. Some people in the village couldn't eat rice more than twice or thrice in a year (Christmas and Easter periods). Even in urban areas, many families could only afford to cook rice once in a week which was mostly on Sundays. But things have changed today. People can eat rice everyday or anytime they like because it is no more a luxury to them.

If you say chicken was luxury I would have agreed cus it’s during festive period we get the live chicken or turnkey
But normally rice and Titus fish on a Sunday wasn’t luxury.
We were even staying in a one room before we moved to a room and parlor
