Drama As IGP Disu Replaces Police Spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin by alphonsojidebab(op): 9:03am On Mar 09

The newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has announced the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.

Placid replaces Benjamin Hundeyin, who had served as the spokesperson for the police since September 2025.

The development was confirmed on Sunday in a statement issued from the Force Headquarters in Abuja. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The change in the police spokesperson role comes shortly after a leadership transition within the Nigeria Police Force.

Former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun stepped down from the position, paving the way for the appointment of Disu by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Following the leadership change, the new IGP initiated adjustments within the police command structure, including the appointment of a new spokesperson for the force.

DCP Anthony Okon Placid was born on December 2, 1970, and hails from Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo and later obtained a Master’s degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos.

Placid joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1996 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Nigeria Police Academy, Kano, and was officially commissioned into the force in August 1998.

With nearly three decades of service, he has held several operational and administrative roles within the police.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force has not officially stated the reason for the removal of Benjamin Hundeyin from the position.

Similarly, his next assignment within the police structure has not yet been disclosed.

Observers believe the move may be part of broader internal restructuring following the appointment of the new Inspector-General of Police.

I think it's only proper, both Disu and Hundeyin are from Lagos and I think they are both from the Badagry quarters so I is only logical toove him on.

And Hundeyin is still rather young in the ranks so he can go and do other things.

don’t misinform the public pls, Tunji Disu is from Lagos island and not badagry, while Hundeyin is from badagry Lagos. And the IG can choose whoever he want to work with and weather the are both from same state or local govt, does not hold water, just like it was clearly stated, no reason have been given for his removal undecided
