Teenage Pregnancy Highest In Northern Nigeria — State of Health of the Nation by DiamondsAreFore(op): 7:44am On Mar 09
TEENAGE pregnancy remains a serious public health challenge in Nigeria, with northern states such as Kebbi, Zamfara and Kaduna recording the highest rates.

This is according to the 2025 State of Health of the Nation Report, released on Sunday in Abuja and produced under the National Health Act (2014).

It highlighted adolescent reproductive health trended nationwide and revealed emerging regional disparities.

It showed that 32 percent of girls aged 15-19 in Kebbi had been pregnant, followed by Zamfara and Kaduna at 30 percent each, while Lagos and Edo recorded about three percent.

The findings, drawn from the Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) 2024, revealed sharp regional differences and underlined the need for targeted interventions to improve adolescent reproductive health outcomes across Nigeria.

According to the report, teenage pregnancy increases risks of maternal and child morbidity and mortality, while also contributing to social challenges such as school dropout among adolescent girls in high-risk states.

It noted that pregnancy prevalence declined with education, from 34 percent among girls with no schooling to four percent among those with education beyond secondary school, highlighting education’s protective effect.

The report noted improvements in menstrual hygiene management, with 95 percent of adolescent girls reporting they could wash and change privately at home, while 94 percent used appropriate menstrual materials.

However, the report raised concerns about adolescent mental health and substance abuse, noting increasing alcohol and drug use, including tramadol and cannabis, particularly among secondary school students nationwide.

It stated that adolescents and young people aged 10-24 accounted for about 32 percent of Nigeria’s population and bear a high burden of mental health disorders, particularly depression and anxiety.

The report highlighted government’s commitment to strengthening mental health services during World Mental Health Day and International Adolescent Health Week in 2025, promoting multisectoral collaboration to address substance abuse.

These efforts involved partnerships among the Ministry of Health, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and civil society organisations.

How come, those people pretend to be very holy nah
Re: Teenage Pregnancy Highest In Northern Nigeria — State of Health of the Nation by Ngasky(m): 10:46am On Mar 09
This is not true. I have been transiting between Kebbi and Lagos for the last 2 years, and surprisingly we have more underage pregnancies in Lagos than in Kebbi. I challenge anybody to visit the scanning centers in both Lagos and Kebbi and see for themselves.
In kebbi Majority of citizens visits government hospital, while in Lagos majority visit private hospitals.
Data collection plays a big role.

All they do is pretend.

They pretend to be holy likewise they are not.

I see no problem here. We must not copy western world that refuses to have children, protect child molesters in their government yet claim to love children more than their parents.

Whenever you go online to brag Nigeria is the most populated African country, this is the source of your pride. If not for our very fertile young men and women, you will not have any bragging right, so rest.

.. that is why they have a lot of children on the streets in the north begging for food and money because their parents cannot cater for them.. and when those children grow up they join bad gangs, bandits, terrorists and start kidnapping and killing.. that is why terrorism cannot end in the north..they need family planning.. parents should give birth to the number of children they can cater for .. and they should be against early marriage and young girls getting pregnant unnecessarily

.it does not need deliverance..it needs parents discipling and train there daughters and give them parental training and training them in God way..with this the daughters will not be mingling with men anyhow and sleep with them..they will face their future and life ambition..

Well the south of Nigeria has Education as it's bed rock. Education will force both boys and girls to think about the future because getting jobs takes skills. If you notice even in Lagos, men who do jobs like bricklayer or vulcanizer have Children earlier than boys who go to university, because it is harder to become a doctor than it is to be a vulcanizer. Time and resources are spent on investment to become a doctor which takes years but with 6 months good apprenticeship you a ready to start being a vulcanizer or bricklayer, meaning you have more time on your hands to chase babes and born pikins
Re: Teenage Pregnancy Highest In Northern Nigeria — State of Health of the Nation by U09ce: 1:21pm On Mar 09
I am pretty sure this data is false and biased. First of all, why the age bracket of 15-19? Are 18 and 19 years old also teens?
Secondly, there's no way 30% of that age range in the mentioned states be pregnant except if the sample size was deliberately skewed to give a predetermined outcome.
Re: Teenage Pregnancy Highest In Northern Nigeria — State of Health of the Nation by bigiyaro(m): 1:25pm On Mar 09
This is a normal thing in the core north. Girls start birthing from age 13 to 20-23 before being discarded. Typically, a boy of 19-20 marries a girl of 12-13, by the time the girl is 20-21 she would have birthed like 3-4 kids, the guy goes for a second wife aged 12-13, by the time the second wife gets to 20-21 she would have delivered her 3-4 kids, after this, the guy, divorces the first wife, and goes for the third one, the cycle continues. The boys are taken to mallams at age 4-5 in other states or regions for onward conversion to almajiries, while the girls hawks around till they get to age 12 - 13, after which they will be given out for marriage. The cycle continues. Note that this pattern is not applicable to the very rich ones, this applies to the very poor abokis that pushes wheelbarrows, shoe shiners, mairuwas etc. Your typical iron condemn aboki is a married man or boy with 6-8 kids from 2 little girls in his village. This is 2026, nobody converts to Islam by the threat of unaliving anymore, rather Islam nows grows via rapid reproduction only.
