Veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie, has sparked conversation online after sharing his opinion on who should handle expenses during a date, Rep9ja reports.

According to the respected actor, a man who invites a woman out should be fully prepared to take financial responsibility for the outing, including transportation and any other costs.

Speaking on the matter, the Nollywood legend emphasized that the woman should not be expected to pay for anything since she did not initiate the meeting.

In his words, he said:

“If you invite a girl out on a date, you must take responsibility for whatever she does, including transportation and other expenses. She is not the one who decided to pay you a visit on her own; you are the one who invited her.”

Edochie maintained that the woman should not bear any financial burden during the outing because the invitation came from the man.

His remarks have since sparked debate on social media, with many users sharing differing opinions about dating expectations and financial responsibility in modern relationships.

While some people supported his view, arguing that the person who invites should naturally handle the bills, others insisted that dating in today’s world should involve shared responsibility between both partners.

Yes, when I was in school, girls invited me over more than I invited them and they cooked and bought drink for me before we got down to business. Any girl that's really feeling you would invite you over, or at the very least would pay her T-fare and wouldn't put you in debt when you invite her to come.

I hate to admit it but true that. Whoever wants the outing should get ready for the spending that comes with it. Some Nigerian men are overly obsessed with anything inside skirt, that's why these girls are capitalizing on it. We men are actually the ones spoiling our women, making them become so self entitled to our purse or materialism. The other day, one of my former close friends sent money (50k) to a lady, we asked him why, he said he wanted her close, showed us the chats just to clarify our unbelief and yes he actually did with a particular text of serious concern "please manage this amount, I just want to appreciate you for giving me your number and then your beauty". If you invite a girl to a date, she brings her friends and community, ignore her, choose the finest girl from her community or her friends and make sure you spoil the chosen girl silly in front of the girl.

I always tell people that if you understand the purpose of dating and what relationship is really about, you will know that a man paying for date isn't the golden rule.

If you leave a guy who has shown qualities of a good husband or father simply because he didn't pay for your date, then you are not ready for the relationship. If you can't pay for your meal then you should get a job not dating. If he insists that he wants to pay then allow him but try to insist once in a while.

If you want to capture a man with ease, go shopping with him to buy food ingredients, cook a nice meal and both of you eat. For security reasons, you can put the food in a flask and take the date somewhere else.

If you must go to a nice place for a date, then atleast buy him a small gift to show appreciation. It can be a keyholder or anything.
