Stop encouraging people to fight the police as that could lead to serious consequences
I’m not sure you read my comment to understand it properly. I didn’t encourage anyone to fight the police. My point was that while resisting arrest is wrong, we also cannot ignore the reality of police harassment and abuse of power that many Nigerians experience. The discussion should address both citizens obeying the law and holding law enforcement accountable. Please read slowly and carefully next time.

"You will be released without any money paid!"

This should be ranked as one of the greatest lies of the century.

No matter how much you know your rights, you will always have to obey before complaint when police is involved. You don't fight back when you are beaten up, even when you are right. (at least that is the entire essense of the whole post) you don't resist arrest even when there is no basis for the arrest.
You don't resist phone inspection, even when the law clearly says No police man has the right to go through your phone.

You will equally have to pay for bail even when you are not supposed to pay.

That is the Nigeria we find ourselves.
Resist doing any of the above and only God knows what will become of you.
If you enter Yankee , resist arrest too, if you no find find yourself under 6feet talk day no be my mama born me .

If a police man cannot properly identify himself with me seeing clearly the name and service number written on his ID card.

I will not cooperate with him. Even kidnappers wear police uniforms to operate sometimes..

Ddetectives/undercover police officer will arrest you without uniform.
Armed robbers, ritualists, yahoo boys kidnappers, rapists etc will be cursing the police after the police have done their job and arrested them and you expect such curses to affect the police?
I said the Innocents, you should know that Nigerian police usually carry out dirty job for their seniors and politicians because of the benefits attached. Don't tell me you know these things
Re: Fighting A Police Officer During Arrest? Your Express Way To Prison by Walz001: 8:27am On Mar 10
Short of words but its quite reasonable
But at the same time we need to encourage our service men too to do the right thing
We are all hard in nigeria
Some wont fight but be beaten as if he stole while some will steal and still fight uniform men

We need 6times wisdom to over come in nigeria called a country

So be wise

Fighting a Police officer during arrest? Your express way to prison, avoid it whether he is on illegal duty or not.

Many people believe that arguing, resisting, fighting a police officer or destroying evidence can provide a quick escape from a police encounter.

In reality, these reactive behaviors often create new, independent offenses that are far more difficult to defend than the original allegation.

Whether a police officer is arresting you illegally or you have not committed any offence, please avoid struggling or engaging a police officer in a fight.

The worst is tearing or injuring a police officer especially one in uniform, you have not only assaulted the individual, but you have also assaulted the president and the constitution, in whose authority the officer is acting on.

Some officers attitude can sometimes be annoying, but you cannot use impunity to correct impunity.

Now, for you not to fall a victim, during police arrest, do the following:

1. Do not attempt to struggle or run away when officers come for you. Even if you are arrested unjustly, you will be released without any money paid so long as you know your rights.

2. Remain calm. Cooperation in the moment is not an admission of guilt; it is a tactical move to ensure your safety and preserve your legal options.

2. Spoliation (Destroying or Concealing Evidence)
In a moment of fear, individuals may attempt to smash phones, delete messages, or discard items. Please do not do any of such

Ignorance of the law is not an excuse.

Be deceiving yourself! Unless you don't know what you are doing! Policemen have tried abducting me on one occasion, I stood my ground !

Know what to say and say it with confidence! There's police harassment and miscarriage of justice from illegal and error innarrest. Don't be a victim in Nigeria.

Run or stand when you are innocent
Re: Fighting A Police Officer During Arrest? Your Express Way To Prison by peacenow: 8:51am On Mar 10
Policing in Nigeria is something . Our Police commission needs to sensitize the nation on rights of individual when being arrested.

Excessive use of force is common in Nigeria by our law enforcement agencies.

De-escalation methods and verbal judo needs to be practiced by our law enforcement officers.

Every police on the street would command respect when they uphold standards of conducts of policing.

When you say don't fight Police when you are being arrested means nothing because criminality has levels.

Bandits, terrorists, arm robbers, cultists and any dangerous group could not be part of people you are talking to here.

Police are out numbered any day any time and my advise is that Police should always have proper identification and always have back up and plan B.

Law enforcement is not easy. You will not know until you work as a police officer.

No matter what the government says, crook Police will always meet their match.

To all good law enforcement people out there, thank you for your service and to the bad ones, God will judge you.
Re: Fighting A Police Officer During Arrest? Your Express Way To Prison by opicgif: 8:53am On Mar 10
Does this your LAW also apply to bandits and terrorists that have killed more than 100 soldiers in past week alone and thousands of policemen ??

Or your admonition is only for defenseless innocent citizens in the south of Nigeria?

Because in the north, when police arrests, youth gang up, go to the police station and burn it down, so what the police do now is to

Inform community and religious leaders before entering communities to make arrests, and if they are not given green light, they stand down!

So I ask again, is this your law and admonition for only weak and innocent Nigerians who can’t fight back, or it’s actually for EVERY NIGERIAN?

A police officer “must”execute his duties and powers of his office “lawfully”. Also where does it state arguing with a police officer is an offence.

As far as I am concerned I will continue challenging common police actions or practices with fall foul of the constitution and human rights.

Let me ask you this, how many officers actually understand their legal powers and duties?

Also Nigerians who are unlawfully arrested must be compensated but is this routinely done?

How many complaints against officers are upheld?

All I see are a bunch of ragtag misfits who beat or torture and arbitrarily arrest Nigerians in lieu and you come here to ask Nigerians to comply like sheep.

As someone with nearly two decades of law enforcement in saner climes as we call it, posts such as yours absolutely piss me off. The Nigerian Police are a menace and we are rated one of the worst police forces in the world.

The NPF need to do a lot more to earn the trust of Nigerians and they must understand they are accountable for actions or inactions not spouting half truths on social media.

Too many jobless idle children
Creating posts on this website
While awaiting admission
Instead of you to go and learn handwork
You are writing what you don’t understand

More than half of all the policemen in port harcourt arresting people on the roads are on illegal duty

They arrest you, drive you to Ogoni, threaten to shoot you and dump your corpse in river if you don’t transfer money to them,

When you report at Moscow road police hq, those ones will deny the police men

Then you come and create thread that people should willingly follow policemen?

Either you are jobless, or you a child trying to get into blogging

Because you’re not even smart enough to be paid for this job that nobody sent you

What about an officer hitting and slapping suspect repeatedly and unprofessionally?
What is his own EXPRESS?

I believe the law is two side not one sided as we have made it to be in Nigeria and police force.
Re: Fighting A Police Officer During Arrest? Your Express Way To Prison by Godsonkemz(m): 9:23am On Mar 10
Even if you don't fight, you can still land in prison as they could falsely claim you fought them when you reach station.
Anything you can do not to be taken to the station where falsehood prevail, where an innocent person is framed do it.

I remember a case of an innocent person who was detained simply because he was trying to convey an accident victim to the hospital who eventually succumbed to her injuries. He reported the case to the police as a good citizen and that's how he was detained as a murder suspect.

Warrant to search premises is different from Stop & Search which Police globally have the right to do. Under " probable cause'

The police should also be cautioned to always follow up arrest proceeding in the most civilised manner possible. Police should not slap culprit at will. It's just embarrassing and unprofessional. The court should decides the fate of the accused.
