Many pointed out contradictions in her social media activity for example, Clare had previously mentioned on TikTok that she had been living in Ogun State for eight years, but in more recent Instagram replies, she said she was based in Lagos. Some users also noticed older posts suggesting she lives on the Island.

Adding to the suspicion, some screenshots showed that Asherkine had commented on Clare’s Instagram about sixteen weeks before the video was posted. This led many to speculate that they might have known each other prior to the viral video. Others, however, argued that the screenshots could have been edited, leaving the situation ambiguous.

As the conversation heated up, social media users stormed Clare’s Instagram page, leaving comments and questioning the story. Several Twitter influencers publicly called on Asherkine to clarify what really happened, and some wondered how Clare was able to obtain a visa so quickly for the trip if it was genuinely a spontaneous meet-up.

Eventually, Asherkine responded online, posting a series of tweets defending both himself and Clare, insisting that the video was genuine and that the attention was unnecessary.
