Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has launched a major scholarship programme aimed at supporting over 1,000 underprivileged students seeking university education in Nigeria.

The initiative was unveiled on Tuesday at Havilla University as part of activities marking her second anniversary as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the institution’s Governing Council. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Speaking during the event, Tinubu-Ojo emphasized that access to quality education is essential for national development and should be available to every Nigerian youth regardless of background.

According to her, the scholarship programme will provide tuition-free education valued at about ₦400,000 per student.

The scheme is expected to commence from the 2025/2026 academic session, offering financial support to students who may otherwise struggle to afford higher education.

Tinubu-Ojo explained that the initiative reflects her commitment to youth empowerment and educational advancement across the country.

“Education remains the greatest equalizer between the rich and the poor,” she stated, stressing that empowering young people through education is key to building a better future for Nigeria.

Beyond the scholarship programme, Tinubu-Ojo also laid the foundation for the Folasade Tinubu-Ojo Centre for Vocational Studies within the university campus.

The facility is expected to provide practical skills training and support technical education for students and young entrepreneurs.

Earlier in the day, she also inaugurated the Folasade Tinubu-Ojo Complex, another development project at the university.

The Chancellor of the university, Jones Tangban, praised Tinubu-Ojo for the initiative, describing it as a significant contribution to the growth of education in Nigeria.

Tangban noted that the scholarship programme aligns with the broader vision of expanding educational opportunities and strengthening human capital development in the country.

He added that although the initiative supports the Renewed Hope Agenda associated with the administration of President Tinubu, the scholarship scheme itself is personally funded by Tinubu-Ojo.

The university leadership also encouraged prospective beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity and remain dedicated to their studies.

Observers say initiatives like this could help improve access to education for many young Nigerians, particularly those from low-income backgrounds who struggle to finance university studies.
