A point-of-sale (POS) operator, identified as Raphael Luther Akpetomun, has been shot dead by suspected armed robbers in Gboko, Benue State.

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening, March 8, 2026, at the victim’s shop where he reportedly operated his POS business.

According to sources in the area, Akpetomun was attending to customers when armed men stormed the location. The attackers reportedly opened fire on him, killing him on the spot before making away with an undisclosed amount of money.

The sudden attack has left residents of the community shocked, as POS operators in many parts of the country have increasingly become targets of robbery attacks.

As of the time this report was filed, the Benue State Police Command had yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. However, residents are calling on security agencies to investigate the killing and bring the perpetrators to justice.


The body of the deceased has reportedly been evacuated from the scene, while locals continue to express grief over the tragic loss.

How much cash does POS operators carry that they'll kill him for? Most of them have less than 300k cash with them and have to go to the bank at intervals to restock. This country is gone.

These robbers are heartless. That was how they killed an elderly provision seller in my neighborhood last week.

I am never in support of jungle justice, but sometimes I am forced to think that they deserve no mercy when arrested.

I got the information from a legit source, that's my hometown.

Ok if they must rob him, do so and spare his life. Why the killing. This one hurts honestly

Like I am reading above, if it's cult related then I don't have any pity for him. Apart from that the killers are heartless, why not just take the money and spare his life

FG not doing enough for the youth..... The rate of hopelessness is too high for a young man out there, many youth feels like they have no option than to commit crime which is totally wrong.



To FG, what program are the youth benefiting from?

To the state Government, how are you engaging your youth in the states?

What relieves packages are currently available to the youth?

Yiedep program by FG due to delay and lack of desire to help the youth has deeping more youth into hopelessness and distrust in this current government.

But the same picture was what I saw regarding the Minna incident and now I am seeing Benue.
