A trending video on social media shows residents of Jobele in Afijio Local Government Area of Oyo State blocking the Ibadan–Oyo Expressway in protest after alleging that a suspected bandit they apprehended was released by the police.

According to the residents, the suspect was captured by members of the community during the night and handed over to the authorities. However, they claim that by the following morning, the suspect had already been released.

In the video, a voice believed to be one of the protesters can be heard calling on youths in Oyo to unite, expressing frustration over the situation.

"The police are not our friends, they are the ones killing us. We arrested a bandit last night and this morning they have already released him," the voice said.

The protest reportedly caused disruption along the busy Ibadan–Oyo Expressway, as residents gathered on the road to express their anger and demand answers over the alleged release of the suspect.

Nigerians are now calling for a thorough investigation into the claims made by the community.

How did they know the person they arrested was a bandit? Most times emotions override critical thinking. The fact that you notice a strange face on your community doesn't mean he's a suspect. In as much as the Nigerian police are not dependable and reliable, however the law still gives them the power to investigate and charge offenders to courts.
