Ondo Unveils 30-Year Development Blueprint ‘Ondo 2055’, Seeks Collective Action for Sustainable Growth The Ondo State Government on Thursday officially unveiled its long-term development blueprint, Ondo State Development Plan (Ondo 2055), a strategic framework designed to guide the state’s socio-economic transformation over the next three decades. The unveiling ceremony, held at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Alagbaka, Akure, brought together key stakeholders including Permanent Secretaries, General Managers, technocrats, development partners, consultants and representatives of various sectors who contributed to the formulation of the plan. Delivering the keynote address, the Honourable Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Olaolu Akindolire, described the unveiling as a historic milestone in the state’s quest for sustainable and inclusive development. According to him, the Ondo 2055 Development Plan is more than a policy document; it is a strategic roadmap designed to guide successive administrations toward long-term productivity, economic prosperity and human capital development. Akindolire explained that the development blueprint was formulated through extensive consultations with a wide range of stakeholders, including market women, artisan groups, academia, faith-based organisations, technocrats, traditional institutions and Ondo State indigenes both at home and in the diaspora. He noted that the document aligns with national and global development frameworks, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and is built on comprehensive macroeconomic projections, empirical analysis and sectoral diagnostics. According to him, the plan is anchored on four major pillars: Governance, Law and Order; a Prosperous Economy; Human Capital Development; and Environment and Infrastructure. “The plan is strategically designed to provide a structured framework for coordinating public investment, encouraging private sector participation, strengthening institutions and improving the quality of life of our people, particularly at the grassroots,” the commissioner stated. He added that the implementation of the development blueprint is expected to stimulate sustainable growth in the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), improve Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), enhance fiscal sustainability and significantly reduce poverty and unemployment. While acknowledging that some programmes outlined in the plan may appear ambitious, Akindolire stressed that they remain realistic and achievable, as they are rooted in the state’s comparative advantages and current economic realities. He further disclosed that a robust monitoring and evaluation framework has been incorporated into the plan to ensure effective tracking of progress throughout its implementation. The commissioner commended the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for prioritising long-term planning and structured development, noting that the Ondo 2055 Development Plan reflects the administration’s commitment to transformational governance and fiscal discipline. Akindolire emphasised that the successful implementation of the plan would require strong collaboration between government and non-state actors. “Development is a shared responsibility. Government alone cannot achieve this vision. All stakeholders must work together to realise the lofty goals outlined in this plan,” he added. Also speaking, the representative of the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Mrs. Yemi Pirisola, said the office supported the development of the plan and commended the state government for ensuring its completion. She noted that the existence of a well-articulated development plan positions Ondo State as a viable destination for development partnerships and investment opportunities. “A state with a clear development plan signals readiness for progress, partnership and investment. Development partners and investors look at such documents to understand the direction of growth and where they can align their support,” Pirisola explained. She further disclosed that the development plan adopted a bottom-up approach, allowing women, youth groups, community stakeholders and other interest groups to contribute to the formulation of the document. “With this inclusive process, the plan belongs to all of us. It is our collective document and our shared roadmap for the future,” she added. In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the Editorial Board, Alhaji Kunle Sanni, commended the state government and the team behind the Ondo 2055 Development Plan for what he described as a historic and academically driven blueprint for the state’s long-term development. He praised the versatility of the team and the spirit of collective cooperation that characterised the preparation of the document, noting that the initiative marked a significant milestone in the state’s planning process. According to him, the development plan represents a deliberate effort to sustain long-term development planning rather than abandon strategic frameworks, a trend he noted had occurred under some previous administrations. Sanni said the resilience and determination demonstrated by those who worked on the document reflected a strong conviction that the plan must be implemented for the overall progress of the state. He described the blueprint as a pivotal roadmap that would guide Ondo State toward sustainable development, adding that it is one of the first development initiatives in the state to be comprehensively produced through an academic and professional approach. Particularly, he praised the governor for choosing to invest in strategic planning rather than unnecessary expenditures. Sanni urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state to demonstrate sincerity and commitment in implementing the blueprint, stressing that the success of the plan would depend largely on faithful execution by relevant government institutions. Earlier in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. B.J Daisi, described the unveiling as a landmark initiative that would shape the state’s development trajectory for the next 30 years. According to him, the document represents the collective vision and aspirations of the people of Ondo State. “Today we are unveiling a state development plan that will guide our development for the next 30 years. It is unique and special because Ondo State indigenes, including those in the diaspora, contributed to it. What we have today is our collective dream and decision on where we want the state to be in the future,” he said. Afolabi Kudirat Abimbola Media Manager MEP&B

SuperEagles:Lagos has no master plan that was designed by Tinubu. All the governors after him have proven that they’re all just doing as they want. |
