There is nothing wrong with education. The problem is the funding model for our universities. We have over 140 public universities in Nigeria where students don’t pay tuition fees and you guys expect lecturers to be paid salaries. Just this weekend, a post by a student complaining of N125k fees for school logistics went viral on social media.

We want the best of everything and we don’t want to pay for it. A standard private secondary school in Abuja charges nothing less than N1.5m in a year but somehow, we want to pay N20,000 per year for university education and we don’t want lecturers to sleep in offices. Okay now, make all of us dey play.
You points would have been valid in a poor country like Rwanda.

Nigeria's wealth if well managed will fund a comfortable lifestyle for everyone.

Before the fall of Ghaddafi in Lybia, their citizens led better lives than most Americans and Europeans.

The truth is, we have the money but it is been frittered away by thieving politicians with the help of civil servants and most western countries.

If government Schools were well funded, no private school will bill you 1.5m per session.

That alone is an indictment of how bad things have become here.

Always making excuses for useless politicians.

The politicians that pocket billions in salaries annually get their salaries from where?

It’s time to pay teachers well now and suddenly the issue is from the tuition students pay.

Do you know in China, the tuition fees are quite low and they have one of the best quality of education in the world? An average lecturer in China receives a Naira equivalent of 3.4M Naira monthly as salary.
Nigeria problem are corruption and fraudulent acts and it has become endemic in our society, the same students you're trying to pity, when they too get to power they do the worst, they quickly forget where they are coming from.

The punishment from autocratic government in China for corruption is very weighty and it works because there is no room for tribalism or sentiments, here our law against corruption seems powerless because of tribalism, political and religion sentiments.

We supposed be enjoying fuel subsidies as oil producing nation but corruption and fraudulent practicies has make it very difficult.

Nigeria is a very poor country. Corruption is the least of our problems. Without corruption, we still won’t be able to give over 200m people free education. You don’t want to pay for PMS. You don’t want to pay taxes. You want free electricity. You want free health. All to be funded by who? 1.5million crude oil daily production? You guys joke too much abeg.

Why is it so difficult for governments both federal and states to build affordable housing or even new towns for the people?

FESTAC town was built from scratch by the military government in “79

All Jakande estates in Lagos was built by Alh Jankande in the space of 4 years.

Government owns all the lands in Nigeria, that alone removes the need to pay for land. Just take lands somewhere and build something affordable for the citizens.

We have truly heartless people as leaders in this country.
You are right but that alone can not really solve the problem. There is government housing in Europe and North America and they still have this same crisis of housing.

What he complained about can however only apply to universities in big cities like Lagos, PH and Abuja and no other place

Did you really type this? On purpose? Do you understand that education is free up to the level of doctoral studies in many countries and yet, their lecturers do not complain? How many lecturers are there when you compare with students, that they cannot conveniently pay them reasonable salaries? Besides, when did public investments stop being the source of funding for public schools or are those lecturers exempted? Some of you politicians apologists would type anyhow, at the expense of simple reasoning.
They pay 40-45% of their income as taxes. In Nigeria, you want free PMS, free education, free healthcare, free electricity, subsidized forex etc and you still don’t want to pay taxes. These freebies should be funded by who?

it's the greed of the politicians and that is why democracy can't be the best for Africa.
Those affordable houses being built by the govt are shared among them the politicians in power and their cronies.

There have been stories of how legislators and Lagos state govt officials shared all those govt housing projects among themselves and their girlfriends.

Democracy does not work in Africa, maybe south Africa might be an exception, but you see this west Africa, forget democracy, it's just purely money sharing ventures, you can imagine Tinubu calling himself a democrats, I can't buy laugh.

If you cannot industrialize the entire value chain of the construction sector housing cannot be delivered cost effectively. We still import substantial amounts of building inputs so the larger economy controls what we can afford and what we can't.

How about we start the explanation with the numerous indirect taxes embedded in Nigerians' everyday transactions. Who is accounting for those?

The frustration that many Nigerians express, as I suspect you already know, is not about paying high taxes, but about trust and accountability. People naturally, must want to know how their monies are functioning.

We see a country with significant oil revenue, large budgets, and numerous public funds, even without the taxes you say we don’t pay, yet our universities are underfunded, hospitals struggle, and infrastructure remains poor.

So are we being punished by the people in authority? Why are they hiding behind the lie that development must come only out of the pockets of citizens?

The parents don't have to pay if they can't afford the fee. The student should apply to NELFUND for student loan. That is why the agency was created.

If 40% sleep in their offices ..why can't four or maybe five come together and split the rent if an apartment? Is it really they want to live for free? Didn't they do some kind of check before applying for the position? That's on them..

The truth is that university education is not meant for everyone. I have always said this here. One of our problems is jobs for certificate holders have extremely low salaries.

If not, everyone doesn't have to further their education because it's only meant for a select few who can afford it.

Clueless,.. every body just focus on what they can steal from the people...

Just enter office and steal what doesn't belongs to you..

Most office equipments today as been rechanneled to personal use.. not by auction.. from AC units , Solar Batteries, Laptops , Printers., even official vehicles.

Nigerians are born greedy and thieves.

Come to work and don't do anything but discuss politics..
