The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed banks to restrict access to certain banking services for large-ticket borrowers with non-performing loans, as part of efforts to safeguard financial system stability and strengthen credit discipline.]

According to the apex bank, large-ticket obligors include borrowers whose combined exposure across banks exceeds the Single Obligor Limit and whose obligations materially affect a bank’s Capital Adequacy Ratio or otherwise pose systemic risks to the financial system.

You have every valid reason to doubt.

Honestly.
The funny part is that I started doubting my own intelligence at one point. I had to step back to regain my self esteem as people will use their opinions to make you doubt your knowledge base.

Good move
At least in western countries they use credit score.
Once you don't pay, your credit score goes down.
When you go for any future loan services,
- another loan,
- mortgage (house)
- contract mobile phone
... They just check your credit score online and deny you service.
Until you go and pay that loan back to increase your credit score.
How many important things do people use credit for over here
Houses
Cars
Eletronics huh?
Any huh

Aha!!
It's about to gooooo dooown!!
But the listed restrictions will not stop them though.
Those who borrow and refuse to pay back usually don't need any of the listed instruments.
The CBN should consider directing stricter sanctions such as a more stringent blacklisting of their BVN, restricted access to accounts, PND orders.
No be those online faceless loan shark companies wey dey borrow pple 10k 15k Dem dey try protect ooo....

You need to have Nine lives to survive as a business man in Nigeria. You have a Purchasing Order from Government institution and immediately proceeded to your bank to obtain loan for the project. But the same government refused to pay for the project after the execution. You owe the bank while the Government owes you. Same Government is saying the bank should restrict your access to banking services. What a Shame and travesty!!!

Some of those ones aren't even approved by the CBN and we dont care if people collect their money and disappear.
We still have people borrowing from registered and regulated digital lending platforms without paying back.

If Nigeria have successfully paid all the unaccountable loans they are owing then they can tell citizens this trash! Though not indulging loan defaulters, but they are many factors to loan defaults. Let the country lead by a good e.g 1st. Not just formulating policies without proper consideration.
Can you share more details on these "unaccountable" loans owed by Nigeria? Tell us just one or two.

Single Obligor Limit (SOL): The CBN prohibits banks from lending more than 20% of their shareholders' funds to a single borrower (or related parties). A large-ticket obligor is any entity whose total debt across all banks exceeds this 20% threshold.

I hope this helps.

That's why we insist on Advance Payment Guarantees (APG) or only work with agencies that have "Cash-Backed" POs to avoid this specific cycle of debt.

No more high-risk ventures out of desperation. I would rather borrow funds for wholesale targeting carefully researched retail markets.

Here, Chinese will give u whether u are paying or not. Highest, u open to another company and collect, and in that cycle.
I don't know if those Chinese companies are making it here or not.

Just thank God for your life

quote author=helinues post=138756054]Best thing to do

Why would you obtain loans without paying back. They should be blacklisted for some certain things self

Loans or debt, how do people sleep peacefully with it. If I asked people for money, it just have to be ridiculous money which I know it won't stress me to pay. Same as buying on credit, I buy ridiculous price that the paying won't be a burden.

There is a store I buy things regularly, I might decided to buy the small yoghurt,

The lady would be like, but you can afford the big one,

Me: I can't afford it now

The lady: You have credit opportunity here

Me: Are you the one to pay?

Having opportunity to credit or loan, if you like abuse it, you are still the one to pay it[/quote]

Bro it's all about self policy of not doing more than you can afford. Whether loans or real money, majority of the things we waste money on are things which can't be useful to us in future.

If you can cut reasonable of the unnecessary spendings, you should be having extras. If you know how much partying ( Owambe) is costing some people yearly, if they gather the money together, it could be useful to pursue their future dreams

The feelings of no zero balance, try and be having the feelings not just sometimes but regularly

the fear may be justified for a serial borrower who does 10k here, 10k there across the different fintechs - this sounds like that game may be up

It makes me wonder how Dangote got the funding for the refinery. He took massive loans, so which banks gave him those loans?
