Nigeria is making more dollars from the crisis in the middle east and I guess that it's lack of planning that's responsible for the more dollars.

Countries are releasing their reserves, where is Nigerian reserve. APC used the oil to borrow loans which they recklessly looted, today the chicken has finally come home to roast.

What's Peter Obi talking about? To some degree, the risk can be mitigated domestically, sure but you can't completely eliminate it. This affects the whole world. Man is either really dumb or trying to score cheap political points but this one doesn't land.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, while marking his 2,600 days in office at an elaborate ceremony held at the Blue Roof of the Lagos Television premises, has said voting out the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from power in next year’s general election is the only way the country can have stable electricity.

According to The Nation, Fashola said electricity crisis in the country is caused by lack of ideas and insincerity of purpose on the part of Federal Government.

"Yes I agree with you that it is possible to generate electricity and to make sure that everybody in this country has electricity, we have to do the right thing. But you know what, the only way that you and I will have electricity in this country will be to vote out the PDP.

Fashola spoke at the commissioning of 8.5 megawatts Lekki Independent Power Project (IPP), the fifth of such power projects in the last five years in the state.

The governor said the addition of the Lekki IPP was a testament to the fact that stable power does not require rocket science to achieve in the country.

While challenging power distribution companies in the state, Fashola said, “Let the Eko DISCOs sign a contract with me, giving part of their concessioning to the state government, in about six to eight months, there will be power in all homes in Lagos State,” Fashola said.

He added, “So, let no one say that he has no money to deliver power for the entire country. This is the limit to which the law allows us to do, but we have done this to make a statement that power can be generated. So, when they come with lies that power is impossible, you can tell them that we have power here; we make it possible”.

The project, courtesy of the state government, in partnership with Heritage Bank, is to serve Lagos State Water Corporations in Lekki Phase 1, Oniru, Victoria Island and Ikoyi, as well as over 25km of public lightening in the Lekki axis.

It is still a lack of planning.
There is no issue that is insurmountable if you are prepared.
Yes, it is not easy but those who will suffer whatever issue or adversary in life are those without a plan.

On a personal level of you have perhaps multiple sources of income or a line of alternatives or the fortitude to bear the shocks you will be a lot better off that someone who has not considered these things at all.

So let us encourage, pressurize, advice, whatever our leaders to think far and wide about what can potentially affect the economy because it will affect them as well.

Covid came and went, some economies ,some businesses, some individuals went through successfully,.other governments fell, other economies haven't recovered till now, other businesses remain bankrupt and some individuals co.itted suicide.

Take your pick and see whether it is better to be prepared or not.

PS. Now that Dangote is established as a solid producer, the government should start thinking of strategic reservation. We have a lot of legacy oil assets such as tanks farms from decades of importation, most of which are lying idle presently. Can the Fed issue out Reserve Production to Dangote so that we will be like other economies having one day, one week, one month, one year stocks. Japan has 200 days worth of oil. A country not producing a barrel. We can have that for products.

With regards what the GCC and US are doing with their SPR; daily crude supply globally is 100m barrels per day. With the situation at the strait of Hormoz, 20m is cut out. The GCC and US plan to release 400m barrels from their SPR to support global supply; that will meet demand and crash price. But that can only helpul for 20 days alone. Just 20 days.

So what then can Nigeria viably do with her "reserve" to cushion this price hike?

BTW, there's no scarcity in Nigeria. Dangote is steadily meeting our demand. Just that global oil price has increased.

There's no where on earth where strategic reserve is a solution to price hike caused by global conflict long term; it's always a short term solution. During the Iraqi war, the supply crunch (about 1m barrels per day was out) wasn't even terrible like this one and price hiked like crazy for a long time.

The sector has been deregulated. Government can only store crude, via NNPC. Government can’t store petrol.

As I type, there are petrol stored in tank farms and depots all over Nigeria by private owners.

Oil is sold on FUTURES. So the future price a crude oil will be delivered to you is determined today. Therefore, oil/petroleum marketers sell petrol that they have on hand today, using the contract they signed for future delivery of oil, at a price they agreed today.

Ask people who trade derivatives. They will explain more.

Even if we keep fuel till tomorrow because of shock or short suddenly disruption, the price it will be sold can’t come down UNLESS it is subsidized. Don’t forget we are no longer in subsidy era. That’s why government is not keeping any petrol again.

Sensible countries have strategic reserves of refined petroleum products. The USA have the SPR (Strategic Petroleum Reserve) and they have released 172 million barrels two days ago to manage market volatility. You people will shoot down anything because you dislike the messenger not that the message is not right. This is the key problem of Nigeria. That's why we have not got it right in leadership.

Nigeria with a population of about 200 million persons have more people living in poverty than India with a population of over 1.3b persons.

It’s still on the first page how Tinubu plundered 63% of Nigerians into abject poverty. 63% of 200 million people is 126 million.

India has about 77 million people living in poverty despite having almost 8X Nigeria’s population.

We still manage to have almost 50M more people in poverty than the most populous country on earth.
