Court Reinstates Rivers State University Lecturer, Tamunonimim Ngerebo-A by AnonPoet(op): 10:25pm On Mar 13
The National Industrial Court sitting in Port Harcourt has ordered the reinstatement of a purportedly dismissed lecturer of Rivers State University, Professor Tamunonimim A. Ngerebo-a.

In her judgment obtained by this newspaper, the presiding judge, Hon. Justice E. I. Kola-Olalere, held that the dismissal of the claimant by Rivers State University did not comply with the institution’s laws and regulations and was therefore unlawful.

Ngerebo-a, who was of the Department of Banking and Finance, Faculty of Management Sciences, was dismissed by the 12th Governing Council of Rivers State University under the then Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Opuenebo Owei.

Professor Ngerebo-a had approached the court in 2019 challenging his dismissal from the university and sought reinstatement.

The court consequently ordered that he be reinstated to the service of Rivers State University with effect from October 10, 2019, and directed the university to pay all his salaries and allowances from that date.

Justice Kola-Olalere further ruled that the outstanding salaries and allowances must be paid within three months.

The judgment also allows Professor Ngerebo-a to be eligible for reassessment for promotion to Professor after serving three years in his reinstated position.

The court made no order as to cost in the judgment.

Meanwhile, the matter has been conclusively closed following the signing of Terms of Settlement between Rivers State University and Professor Ngerebo-a, as confirmed by the immediate past Registrar, Mrs. Ibimonia B. S. Harry, and the current Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi.

When contacted, a highly elated Professor Tamunonimim Ngerebo-a confirmed that “the non-ethnic, digital, proactive, peaceful, humane and progressive Vice Chancellor, acting on the 14th Governing Council of the University, facilitated my reinstatement and restoration of all my rights as Professor. I am indebted to the Governing Council, Vice Chancellor and Management of the University for this kind gesture.

This kind of justice, especially cost implications on government lean pocket will be ringing sense to its power drunk senior officials.
Again, this kind of relief for seven years oppression is hope not lost for fighting injustice.

But how come NONE of you is mentioning it at all and whether he was rightfully exonerated. All I'm seeing are congratulations. Same thing happens when a corrupt politician who embezzled money is found not guilty by a bribed judge. You'd be seeing only congrats all 9ver the place!
Nigerians are weird!

I tell you, this country is something else. And that's why it is the way it is. Just the comments will tell you the kind of citizens we have here. Like some neutered bunch of people. That's why they always attack people who dare speak up - like that BRT lady

It was a sex-for-grade and students' extortion. If I remember what this man did to some of us (extortion and paying for grades) while struggling to meet financial and academic requirements, he doesn't deserve a reinstatement.

Thank God for vindicating you prof. Sometimes gang ups and hatred makes people quick to vilify u. But posterity has a way of vindicating the innocent. U were one of my best among few back then during my Msc in UST. God bless u my prof

What was the allegation that led to his sacking in the first place?
Why has it taken seven whole years for the court to come to this decision?
The wheels of justice are too slow in Nigeria

I guess this news is a paid PR stunt between him and this news outlet, that's why they conveniently left out the part that was supposed to mention his alleged offence(s) so that the public wouldn't start seeing him for who he is.
Even the report didn't exonerate him at all, the report only says his dismissal didn't follow proper guidelines

Seems you are the only person singing his praise. Others feel otherwise. They claim he was an extortionist and sex-for--grade lecturer

LAZY EDITOR AT DAILY POST DID NOT TELL US WHY THE LECTURER WAS DISMISSED IN THE FIRST INSTANCE

MAIN REASON FOR DISMISSAL

Professor Tamunonimim A. Ngerebo was dismissed by Rivers State University in October 2019 for extorting money from students in exchange for higher marks.

The lecturer from the Department of Banking and Finance was accused of setting intentionally difficult exams to force students into paying for better grades, a practice commonly known as "sorting".

Key Details Regarding the Dismissal:
The Offense: He was accused of taking financial gratification from students to manipulate examination results, according to Punch Newspapers.

Method: He was reported to set impossible exam questions to create a situation where students would feel forced to pay for passing grades.

Context: His dismissal was part of a broader, tough stance by the university administration under Vice-Chancellor Prof. Opuenebo Owei to eliminate corruption within the institution.
Administrative Action:

The university also withdrew the certificates of two graduates linked to this activity at the same time.

This dismissal was part of a larger cleanup campaign of academic corruption at the institution.

Thanks for this excellent reportage.

Meanwhile, l think this Professor might likely be guilty of what he was accused of because we are seeing several students online attesting to the fact that the Guy was a wicked king Solomon on Campus, fuvcvvking like a German shepherd sad
