...If u cant shoot from the outside at this level, it will be hard for you to beat a decent team...because, all they have to do is keep collapsing on you....Referee decision did not make us loose by 17 point.........
They shot 28% and we shot 23%. There was no big gap in that department. I see u said nothing about the turnovers. They had 33 points off our turnovers. That's the game right there. If u cut that in half it is close to a tied game.

...we went to the basket more because we could not get our shots to drop....going to the rim does not equate to fouls....
Is that why only 8 out of the 28 shots we took were 3's? Going to the rim does not equate a foul but it heightens the probability.

His points stands though. Yes they shot 28% from 3 but made eleven 3s compared to Nigeria's 4. Speaking to his point, I think what's more obvious is the effect of our inability to hit 3s on our efficiency in the box. We shot 40% from the 2s compared to their own 57%. The reason our percentages from 2 was terrible is because they knew their primary defensive assignment was to clog the box since the D"Tigress couldn't make 3s to save their lives.

I however agree with your point on turnovers, but you'll notice a significant chunk off that came from us trying to force plays in their Box since that was our most likely avenue to get buckets.

At this rate, i do not see us picking more than 2 wins......i do not see how this team beats Germany or France..
Coach Rena's winning strategy has always been defence to offense. She structures are team to give 200% on defence which in turn dictates offence. It's what has covered for this teams deficiencies cause they put significant effort on defence to get going.

That sadly just has been absent this tournament. When the energy is not there I'm defence the team will 100% lose as they just do not have an alternative arsenal and their deficiencies become obvious.

I am living with 28% shooting every day of the week and twice onp Sunday.
U are making up stuff here. Our turnovers were plain silly and not because of any clogged paint. We literally gave them the ball for every turnover.

.....we barely had a few fast break points, we knew our shots were not falling, yet, when we had the chance to run a fast break, we waited to run set plays......We playing a 2-3 zone against a team that is hot is comical.........you play a 2-3 zone against a team that is looking to get to the rim, not the other way round. If we were going to play a zone, it would have been the 3-2 zone.
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by SolaFide(m): 7:57pm On Mar 12
The Koreans were not marginally better than the D'tigresses.
We need to get players who can hit the 3-pointers.
Coach Rena must quickly draft into the team players who can do that consistently.

You have said the truth. However, the USA is always robbing us of players that would have helped our cause e.g the ogwumikes, Arike Ogunbowale and now Kiki Iriafen. Macaulay is a good 3 points shooter. We have a couple of players who can shoot 3 points in the team currently but they are not getting it right. Germany and France will be tougher tests. Maybe we can beat the Phillipine ladies. We have a lot of work to do.

We don't really have a basketball system in Nigeria . In the USA and Europe, they have high school basketball leagues and Collegiate ( University ) leagues and tournaments. This is why we don't have a large pool of players to select from. The USA has pipelines all over Yankee land that produces talent yearly in their hundreds. We only rely on players with a Nigerian heritage who are born in the USA. We can conquer Africa with these Nigerian - American players but we can't conquer the world with them. Cheers.

Nigeria 21:26 Philippines
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by lovewins: 2:24pm On Mar 14
This is sincerely a hard watch. The team is out of sorts, not in rhythm and quite frankly uninspiring.

Musa has been a minus and haven't been herself throughout the tournament. Can't believe Philippines is playing us like this. Maybe not having something to play for is a factor to this streak of bad performances.
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by BascoVanVeli(m): 2:25pm On Mar 14
We are shooting 50% from 3 and we're still down by 5. That's what happens when you have 8 turnovers.

Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by PDPGuy(op): 2:46pm On Mar 14
As the commentators said, D’Tigress need to play better and win in order to be in a favorable pot for the WC draw

Just as I say this we have 3 straight turnovers 🤦🏾‍♂️
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by BascoVanVeli(m): 2:51pm On Mar 14
I would play a big lineup and use zone because those small players have been a problem as drivers

If the point you're making is that we don't need to improve on our 3 pointers to win then I say youre 100% wrong. Taking care of the ball so you don't turnover and improving on 3 pointers aren't mutually exclusive. Making it seem like they are is what I don't understand.

Then to make your point you infered that our shooting 50,% from 3 hasn't necessarily helped. What you failed to mention is that we have shot just 4 times from beyond the arch and made just 2. How consequential is that supposed to be? The fact that we've only shot four 3s is prove that our inability to be efficient in that respect is hurting us. What you did with that stat to make a point is an anomaly that shouldn't be taken seriously.

It's like saying someone shot 100% compared to their opponents 30% from the field and so should win a basketball game, but when you investigate further, you realized they only shot the ball 10 times throughout a 40 minutes game. Percentages aren't consequential at that point. It's also why basketball awards for best shooters don't just use percentages, but also a minimum number of times you're expected to have shot the ball.

Lol we only shot 17 3s against Korea. 5 times 4 is 20.
