Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat rolled up their sleeves and joined sanitation workers to personally clear heaps of refuse in Mushin today.
This hands-on cleanup marks the symbolic relaunch of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across Lagos (set to officially resume on the last Saturday of every month from April 25, 2026, 6:30am–8:30am).
The move comes amid renewed focus on waste management and calls for cleaner streets. While some hail it as true leadership, others call for more dustbins and long-term solutions.

It's not election. They are restarting the monthly environmental sanitation. They've been planning this for almost 2 years.

The Buhari Government started the monthly environmental sanitation programme as part of its War Against Indiscipline (WAI) campaign.

However, someone sued the Lagos State Government because of the restriction of movement and therefore the programme was stopped.

The Lagos State Government has had meetings and online sessions with Lagosians over the past 2 years about restarting the programme.

This was the kick off of the programme (however there will be no restriction of movement).

I am one of the proponents of environmental sanitation. So for that one, I will commend them. The sanitation exercise should never have been abandoned in the first place no matter the arguments some people made about it then. Rwanda has it and their President uses it for prop like you do but everyone knows Rwanda to be clean, that's why I am more interested in your policies than these small things. Your information ministry needs to work with environment to create a massive sanitization and sensitization for Lagosians to MAKE AND KEEP LAGOS CLEAN.
