Nigerian pastor John Anosike has accused Gayton McKenzie of xenophobia and intimidation after the Minister and Patriotic Alliance leader voiced his disapproval of the former’s bid on Cape Town’s Good Hope Centre. Anosike, who heads up a church in Maitland, has also responded to critics, claiming his alleged acquisition is “lawful, transparent and fully documented”. Despite bragging about owning the rights, the City of Cape Town has yet to confirm its successful bid. An auditing process is currently underway. MINISTER MACKENZIE'S OBJECTION During a Facebook Live this week, Gayton McKenzie claimed that the Patriotic Alliance approached the management of the Good Hope Centre to host the launch of the Joslin Smith Foundation. He claims their request was rejected. The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture voiced his disapproval that the Democratic Alliance-led City of Cape Town had allowed Nigerian Pastor John Anosike to bid on the historic landmark. He said: “Over our dead bodies, here will be no Nigerian church. We are not taking arts and culture spaces and giving them to Nigerians. That will not happen. “If that Nigerian pastor knows what is good for him, he must keep that money. My advice to him is to take your money and invest in Nigeria. We will never give you peace. We will fight in the highest court. You will never take that velodrome and have Nigerians there having churches. That place will become a place of drugs. “If the DA thinks…we’re not saying anything, but we’re watching this move. The Good Hope Centre will not be sold to a Nigerian”. PASTOR ANOSIKE'S RESPONSE In a lengthy statement, John Anosike responded to the backlash over his bid for the Good Hope Centre. The Nigerian pastor named Gayton McKenzie, whose strong opposition has garnered attention. Anosike said of the minister: “Statements of this nature raise serious concerns about xenophobic undertones, political intimidation, and the discouragement of lawful investment by foreign residents of South Africa. “When political leaders publicly threaten or attempt to obstruct lawful property transactions that have been conducted within the legal framework of the country, it sends a troubling signal to potential investors and entrepreneurs.” In other Facebook posts, he also sent a “warning” to his xenophobic critics by quoting a bible verse that read: “Be careful how you treat foreigners in your country. For your treatment of them attracts spiritual consequences over the nation”. Another read: “A nation that oppresses immigrants invites divine judgment because injustice provokes God’s wrath.”

Who is this xenophobic @mirasteel that is making hateful and inciting comments on Nigerians and Seun bots can't ban him? In a Nigerian forum you are saying that a Nigerian that legitimately bought a building in your country is doing scam? Would you have said the same if your masters from Europe came to buy it? @Seun if you do not ban this guy and delete this thread, then I won't take Nairaland seriously again. |

TheMensch:You should also be banned for implying South Africans are slaves and hence fuelling toxicity in this thread. Had you gone through Mira's post history you would have realised he's a Nigerian. |

RandDigital:I love the verses the man of God quoted for the xenophobic South Africans who think their land is now paradise and will remain so forever. They need to learn from others to avoid future disaster. Our countrymen in Southwest need to also read those quotes very well. When we were warning our Northern brothers about the spiritual and future consequences of their constant persecution, elimination and dehumanization of innocent strangers in their land at every slightest disagreement, they waved it aside and said do your worst. But take a look at Northern Nigeria today, what's happening there is beyond the ordinary, there is spiritual undertone to the unending cycle of insecurity in Northern Nigeria. |

McKenzie again! The guy has a historic beef with Nigerians. He petitioned the Home Affairs Ministry to investigate Chidimma Adetshina even before there was any controversy. He is always tussling with supporters of the Super Eagles. 2026 WCQ: Super Eagles Must Not Qualify – South Africa's Sports Minister https://www.nairaland.com/8542166/2026-wcq-super-eagles-must naptu2: naptu2: naptu2:[quote author=naptu2 post=136539155]OK, it goes like this. 1) The National Party was the party of apartheid. It was the party of Pieter Botha. De Klerk took over after Botha resigned and he dismantled apartheid. In a show of reconciliation, Mandela made De Klerk one of his deputy presidents. De Klerk tried to reform the National Party and make it the main opposition party, but that was impossible. People saw the National Party as the party of apartheid and the party of Botha and there was no way that blacks could support it. 2) The ANC became the ruling party. 3) The National Party died and there was a need for a new major opposition party. Some people felt that the ANC had become complacent because most black people supported it due to its role in the anti-apartheid struggle. They felt that ANC politicians were becoming corrupt. The Democratic Alliance filled that void. It became the new main opposition to the ANC. Some people tried to paint it as a reincarnation of the National Party, but the DA was able to show that it had support among both black and white South Africans. 4) Some felt that the DA was not strong enough in opposing the ANC. Others felt that the DA, like the ANC, was sacrificing the interests of poor South Africans. They felt that they needed a party that would fight against what they saw as an invasion of immigrants. The Patriotic Alliance filled that need. The Patriotic Alliance was created by 2 former criminals who felt that there was a need to fight against crime which they believed was being committed by foreigners. Gayton McKenzie is one of the former criminals that founded the Patriotic Alliance. He is coloured. The Patriotic Alliance has a lot of support among coloureds in the Western Cape. The ANC failed to get an outright majority in the 2024 election. They needed help. They formed an alliance with the Patriotic Front. Gayton McKenzie was made minister for arts, culture and sports. Old racist and xenopbobic posts by Gayton McKenzie recently surfaced. He used the K word in those posts and said that black people were lazy and lacked ambition. The South African Human Rights Commission has called for an investigation. Many people have called for him to resign. There was a bye-election in a town in the Western Cape 2 days ago. The ANC had narrowly beaten the Patriotic Alliance in the 2024 election. Gayton McKenzie heavily campaigned for the PA candidate. The results are in. The PA narrowly defeated the ANC this time. McKenzie said that it had been a difficult week for him and he is thanking voters of the town for standing by him. ] |

He should build his own nah. Here in his own country, FG even cancelled the sale of FG refineries already sold to Dangote. Today, it is history because Dangote went on to build even a bigger and better refinery where same FG is today a minority shareholder. Go and build your OWN! |

Mirasteel:It is extremely disrespectful to many to buy a monument in another man's land and turn it into your own different purpose. Look at Susan Wenger the Oyinbo who fought for the preservation of Osun groove, they even gave her a Priestess title. I think these religious peeps lack love for anything and anyone all they care is the financial gains they make |

When going to another man's land you must drop your head forever not because you fear them but out of gratitude they allowed you there. Traveling is not a right it is a PREVILEDGE. |
