There are some movies you see, and you'd just know you have seen something generational....and this is one of those!.

A crazy concept....A crazy storyline and even crazier execution by Noomi Rapace...her rent was due, or should i say their rent was due 😩😩.

An all timer Netflix original 🙌🏿

The movie is getting over hyped because it is mostly blacks. Simple as that. They are treating it like some groundbreaking never seen historical movie.
It has nothing to do with the actors being black oga.
It's not overhyped, it's just that good.

"The Oscars (2026)"

“Yet again, this is a celebration of the ‘current thing’ and not necessarily artistic brilliance."

I saw about 95% of the films nominated in the major categories this year, so my take, objectively, is as follows.

Best Actor.

In hindsight, I think Michael B. Jordan had the worst performance of the nominees. “Worst” in the sense that it wasn’t a bad performance, good enough for a casual pat on the back, but never, never, Oscar-worthy. Again, I firmly believe the events of the past three weeks played a huge role here, especially what happened at the BAFTA Awards and the Timothée Chalamet situation.

Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but sometimes a Black man is handed a seat at the high table, not necessarily because he deserves it, but because the white man at the door isn’t letting other Black men into the hall. So if those outside know one of them is sitting at the high table, they won’t be as vexed, even though they’re still outside. That’s the best analogy I can give.
Timothée Chalamet, for what it’s worth, had a far more superior and memorable performance. His case reminds me of Leonardo DiCaprio, after years and years of timeless performances and being sidelined, he finally got it. Timothée is still in his prime, and if he keeps knocking, his time will come.
Congrats to MBJ, though. As a cinephile, I know what my eyes saw. But as a Black man myself, we don’t get to be here often, so sympathy win or not, we’ll take these wins anyway. 👀👀

Best Actress.

Jessie Buckley had the best female lead performance in the year under review, full stop. A deserved win.

Best Supporting Actor.

Again, the Oscars seem to be going for the “current thing” rather than actual acting delivery. Stellan Skarsgård had the best supporting actor performance last year, in my opinion. Instead, the person they gave it to couldn’t even be bothered to come to the awards and preferred chain-smoking on his balcony. A total farce!.

Best Cinematography.

I was rooting for Train Dreams (2025), but Sinners (2025) might have had a dodgy storyline but what I cannot deny, and the first thing you notice when you hit play, is how beautiful it is to look at. A deserved win.

Best Score
.

Again, Ludwig Göransson just needs to keep working with Ryan Coogler and Christopher Nolan all his life and his house will be full of Oscars. He’s winning that of 2027 also, by the way, with The Odyssey (2026), just so you know 😩😩.

Best Animated Feature.

Of course… "KPop Demon Hunters" (2025). As a proud “Hunter,” this award came as no surprise, so we would like to thank the Academy ☺️.

Best Picture.

I have never seen a movie present a serious, current political commentary problem and add absolutely nothing of value to the discourse. So if the Academy says One Battle After Another is Best Picture quality, no wahala. I mean, they gave "Anora" (2024), Best Picture last year, so the credibility of this category hasn’t been this far in the gutter since Oppenheimer deservedly won it in 2024.

Best International Feature.

A superior category. Clear proof that far better movies exist outside Hollywood. I loved all the films on this list, and Sentimental Value winning is a plus for them all.

Anyway, as a cinephile, don’t let the Oscars define your movie choices or experiences. The awards have become too politicized, as with many facets of life currently. Far better films exist than these guys will let you know.

4/10

My stance isn't about any propaganda as I've maintained that the film is way way over hyped since early last year. It's not as if it's recently I started saying this.

Ryan Coogler, since his Black Panther days has always been rewarded for pandering. Cos I don't see any groundbreaking shït he does that makes people give him that leeway like he's the Messiah.

On Michael B Jordan winning it, that's probably the most farcical win I've seen in a long time, Anora win last year sef for that female actress doesn't beat this.

And Marty that wasn't so supreme afterall is what? Underhyped? With the king of Hollywood media throwing it in our faces in all his publications (one can call that propaganda but you ain't ready for that Convo) and made sinners the bitterberry in those same publications all because Hollywood made Coogler public enemy number 1 for his deal with Warner. The marketing for the movie was insane, from making jackets to flying blimps, sinners didn't need all that shit. It was over hyped because it's an original piece post pandemic that became a cash cow, that's something rarer than diamonds nowadays despite Penske and his cohorts doing what they do best but Marty not so supreme can't even cross 200 mil not to mention the fact that the King of Hollywood media is also an investor in a24 and owns the Golden globes (maybe that's why Twink Timmy won but we still ain't ready for that Convo) yet you underlook those and point your attention to sinners. Hollywood may be a facade but this is one of the rare times where the hype came organically

abduleez1:

Same way people think Timmy Turner is the second coming of Leo which I still haven't seen, best performance yet with Marty supreme not best performance on that list, it's all marketing, we have the power to control whom you like or hate in Hollywood. Also, I don't get this pandering narrative on Coogler, he's a black man making black art, he's not the greatest thing since slice bread but neither are the Safdie brothers that you love but that's the beauty of art, it's subjective

Now this is where we agree, he also wasn't my choice but I'd prefer him than twinky Tim, Daddy doesn't own the Oscar so he can't dash him this toy

Award shows had no credibility to begin with, they were all political from the jump. Most times, they aren't awarded to the best but to those who play the game the best
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Chibudollar: 9:29pm On Mar 16
You look at how long it took Leonardo dicaprio to win his Oscar and for the movie he won it for, that's how you know that these awards are not all that. A nice achievement to have regardless.

Timothée Chalamet should learn to keep his mouth shut, even if you’re white, as a celebrity don’t talk down on other industries, he should also stay away from gay and black mata.

Michael B. Jordan Winning that award is a big No for me. Timothée Act on his movie 2025 like it’s his last film.

Wuthering Heights (2026).......8.5/10

The first half of this film gives you the usual preamble to a tragic love story. The forbidden love, the longing and pain in the eyes and suffering one has to endure being unable to express their love publicly all because of the barrier of societal class. A servant and a female aristocrat is obviously one of such forbidden liaison.

But, the second half of the film devolves into a tale of dangerous obsessive affection. It was grotesque, it was a sad watch to see the extent Heathcliff and Catherine would go for their crazy forbidden love. This is one of the darkest romance I've seen in recent times if not the One.

This story is a tale of a wicked love web that threatens to reshape all involved into malformed entities:

Catherine and Heathcliff, whose unspoken love and passion for each other grows till adulthood with the promise of never leaving each other. A forbidden love that promises certain destruction.

Edgar, who becomes enamored with Cathy and becomes her husband but feels the weight of being not enough for Cathy after the sudden appearance of her teenage love. A poster boy of unrequited love and insecurity.

Nelly, who was once best friends with Cathy as a child, saw her world crashing down when teenage Heathcliff comes along and steals the attention and love she enjoys from Cathy, her only friend. So now, silent disdain, jealousy and self pity fills that vacuum.

Isabella, a cheerful and naive girl who got drawn into a depraved love story between two crazies.

I've watched tragic romance movies before, but this has got to be the most gut wrenching I've ever watched, because everyone involved in this love story was left miserable beyond repair.

This is probably the best performance I've ever seen from Margot Robbie and Jacob "Heathcliff" Elordi just proved his mettle once more. The most convincing and menacing performance I've seen him ever deliver. Deserved of an Oscar nomination if you asked me. Top notch acting they all delivered.

Hong Chau (Nelly) really played the dutiful frenemy to a tee.... yanked between keeping Catherine from her destructive impulsive tendencies as a friend and confidant or whether to leave her to combust in the flames of love and its ensuing consequences.

This is probably one of those stories that has no in-betweens; it's either you love it or you hate it. I've not read the book, which is the source material for this, but, the first half of it gave you a glimpse of Emerald Fennel's style of sex crazed storytelling, but the second half slowly eased into a far darker tone of misery, jealousy, contempt, hopelessness, cruelty, self degradation and pure depravity of love, lust or passion— whichever you classify it.

These are themes I feel the film captured well about the book based on what readers of the book had said when the trailer dropped and when rumors came about how flatteringly sexed-up Emerald Fennell made the film into.

It is one of the most beautiful film I've ever seen. The colour, the visuals, it is a technical masterpiece. Linus Sandgren the Cinematographer for this pic ultimately COOKED with this. The production designer.....wow, what can I say. The music score is the most beautiful thing I've listened to this year...well, it was teased with that beautiful teaser trailer.
They carved a world you could unashamedly get obsessively drunk on.

Well, it seems despite what people say about the director, Emerald Fennell can do no wrong in my eyes cos she knocked it out of the park with this one, for me.

Top shelf film, if you're willing to overlook the bias and accept that adaptations can't always be a like for like copy of the source material but an avenue to give a fresher interpretation of it while staying faithful to the themes.

I agree. I'm happy a black man won but TBH, MBJ doesn't deserve to win the Oscar. Sinners was a good movie but that film is way too overrated. For MBJ to win best actor shows how poor the judgement of judges of the show has become, or maybe the lineup was terribly weak.
