I agree with him. It look strong I once bought and tasted it,thinking it will taste like moimoi but the taste wasn't pleasant at all. I threw the remaining one away and since then I no dey buy am again

Okpa is a very ancient, soulful, spiritual delicacy, with a very earthy flavour.

The favourite lunch snack of ancient Igbo farmers dating back over 2,000 years.

When you eat okpa, you're eating a piece of deepest, ancient Igbo history.

So don't expect it to taste like modern cuisines.

Okpa is unique, humble, earthy, and beautiful, and if you grew up with it, you can never speak of it with disdain. cool

I love to try new things, food. I will not condemn but for me I have never enjoyed Okpa. It's usually dry in my mouth whenever I eat. I try to find saliva to wet it enough to swallow.
My wife is igbo, I'm Akwa Ibom so I asked her, "..is there no way you could cook this thing better so I can enjoy it?..." but it seems to be a no no.
So it's not just my thing.
My conclusion, the OP has a point.

At least, okpa has some ingredients inside it, and can be eaten on-the-go.
Unlike ekuru that is plain, and most likely bland on its own.

Lol.. actually it is always advisable to eat Ekuru with it's own stew sauce unless it is for some traditional or our own African medicinal purpose which may prompt someone to eat it blandly without the stew sauce. It's stew mostly tastes like ofada rice stew sauce, although a bit more drier.

And as for the Okpa, maybe he probably doesn't like the taste. And his own discription of it is just the words that came to his mind to describe it.

I am not Ibo, and I have eaten Okpa countless times. It's a natural staple morning food that is quiet beneficial for one on the go to go about his or her business as early as possible. Besides the fact that it holds the stomach until you are ready for a real and actually breakfast or brunch, it's taste is actually the secret to it's success. You can't describe it, and it's just there on your pallet as something very different to other normal foods. I don't eat it often, however I will never pass on the opportunity to eat it.
Don't know about the suffering part, maybe it's his own taste bud that couldn't quite register the uniqueness of Okpa

I'm yet to taste ebiripo. I've tasted okpa once. I had great expectations but was disappointed. I offered some to a relative but he declined....he was like "you go surely regret wasting your money.' True, true, it was regretful.

Today the guy is now flying planes to go buy Okpa nuts and flour. Cutting millions of naira deals on Okpa business.

You eat it with spiced up stew just like ewa igonyin.

That's what makes it delicious unlike okpa that smells bad and can actually send you to hospital.

In August 2022, Urum was asked to step aside as CEO by investors following allegations of sexual misconduct and workplace bullying. An independent investigation later found him guilty of "sexual impropriety" and "abuse of power". Following this, a new board was formed, and while Tony Odiba (COO) acted as interim CEO for a period, reports indicated Eke Urum continued to be involved in the company's investment and product strategy.
That is Eke Urum, The CEO of Risevest for you, that is his type of person.

It is like comparing your Okpa to semo without stew. Ekuru is never meant to be eaten alone. We have moimoi that can be eaten alone or with any stew but Ekuru is different. Imagine eating your cassava flour without stew?
