Senior Trump official resigns over Iran war, claiming it was launched due to Israeli pressure

The head of the United States’ National Counterterrorism Center, Joseph Kent, has resigned over the US-Israel war in Iran, saying in a letter to President Donald Trump posted on X that “Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation.”

“I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby,” writes Kent, who faced criticism over ties to white nationalists before he was tapped for the senior post in the Trump administration.

“Early in this administration, high-ranking Israeli officials and influential members of the American media deployed a misinformation campaign that wholly undermined your America First platform and sowed pro-war sentiments to encourage a war with Iran.

“This echo chamber was used to deceive you into believing that Iran posed an imminent threat to the United States, and that should you strike now, there was a clear path to a swift victory. This was a lie and is the same tactic the Israelis used to draw us into the disastrous Iraq war that cost our nation the lives of thousands of our best men and women. We cannot make this mistake again,” Kent claims.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.

I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.

It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC.

Only God knows how you reason. The moment Iran does what Trump is doing, I will join all reasonable people to condemn Iran.

A downfall of USA is no consolation for Iran. It only enthrones China and the likes who will finally ban Islam or at least regulate islam across borders.

Trump knew the truth but decided to lie to Americans. This war will force the Americans to choose US or its proxy nation in Occupied Palestine as this choice will be on the ballot during the November midterms elections.

Time is fast running out against Trump and the handwriting is boldly on the boards from gas stations to stock market to news of US spending billions daily on this war it is losing while watching on TV how US is losing valuable military assets and personnel in the Middle East.

I read that candidates supported by the Isreali lobby group, AIPAC, are not fairing well at the Democrats primaries so many anti-Isreal candidates will likely make it to the US congress to impeach Trump and cut off US funding for genocidal wars in the middle East.

I disagree. I have read history of wars and understand finance to know that countries fight wars based on their self interest than on the interest of others. There's nothing Trump has done that preceding US leaders haven't alluded to. Point is, it aligns with US national interest. Trump is only loud and bold bout it. Same for Iran. Nothing has changed! Their perspective about US is same. This war or not!
This war is more about geopolitical power balance than specifics.
This official, if true, is playing local political game with his resignation than disagreeing with broad scale view he is claiming.

But even here in Nigeria, we say death to Israel and death to America, death to Netanyahu and death to Trump. Why have they not turned their attention to us hither-to?
