Just in:

Five-time AfroBasket champion Sarah Ogoke has announced her retirement from the Nigerian women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress.

The veteran guard, who debuted in 2011, was a key member of Nigeria’s golden generation and played a major role in the team’s dominance in African women’s basketball.

Wow!

I wish her all the best in her future endeavors. I will always be thankful for her clutch 3-pointers in several crucial games, including the last win vs The Philippines, and at the Afrobasket.

Now, the likes of Oluchi Okananwa and Grace Efosa would step into void.

Who do you guys think will be dropped from the roster for the September World Cup?

Good news about Sarah Ogoke. I really admire her and she has been wonderful in Nigeria colours. She has done great for Nigeria. It's time for a much younger player to step into her position in DTigress squad. Also Blessing Ejiofor does not look good enough to be in the squad. We need the best of the best in the squad for the World Cup.

I am not advocating for anyone to be dropped but since Ogoke has retired now, we should see a much younger and better player take her place in the squad. Blessing Ejiofor's position is not guaranteed. Elizabeth Balogun has to step up her game seriously. Coach Rena should scout for better players for the team and blend them in before September 2026. Cheers.

Blessing Ejiofor is easily replaced by Uche Izoje, who is having a breakout season in her NCAA conference

Rebound, don't turn the ball over and play good defense. We do that and we win this game.
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by BascoVanVeli(m): 5:07pm On Mar 17
Very useless start 😒

Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by BascoVanVeli(m): 5:39pm On Mar 17
Rena should never have a lineup without Palace or Musa. U need one of those super humans in the game at all times.

Pallas is terrible on offense and turns over the ball when she has zero reason to. But she's great on defence and can rebound the ball.

Musa has terrible shot selection, I'm sometimes puzzled T the kinds of shot she goes for and quite frankly curious if she watched film of herself to see how funny it is. She's a sad watch when she's off, but when it's her day you'll enjoy watching her play.

Funny thing is, Nicole isn't my favourite player, in my opinion isn't consequential to the team, but I have been impressed by her showing this tournament. She's one player that surprised me this tournament.

Pallas had a poor end to the half but she is better than that. Musa makes those same shots at a consistent pace, all you have to do is watch her in France.

All you have to do is watch the team without Musa and Palace.
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by TheSuperNerd(m): 6:18pm On Mar 17
We letting the Germans back in. Lead q3 by 1 but losing by 3 across the board.
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by TheSuperNerd(m): 6:19pm On Mar 17
We have levelled it. Dont let these Germans pull away. Stay on them.
