It’s normal to film them is just in abnormal countries that they don’t allowing filming of police in public. If u are not filming, police most to put on body camera. Nigeria and abnormality are 5/6

Well, I just downloaded the court paper above. I am printing it and moving around with it . Better filming of police during illegal operations ahead
My own problem with them now is that, Lagos police are always claiming the ruling does not affect Lagos

Court Upholds Nigerians’ Right to Film Police on Duty, Awards N7m D@mages for Rights Violation

The Federal High Court sitting in Warri, Delta State, has delivered a landmark ruling affirming that Nigerians have the constitutional right to record police officers while they carry out their duties in public.

Delivering judgment on Tuesday in suit number FHC/WR/CS/87/2025, Justice H. A. Nganjiwa held that police officers must wear visible name tags, display their force numbers, and must not harass, intimidate, arrest, or seize devices from citizens documenting their activities.

The court also awarded the applicant, Maxwell Uwaifo, N5 million in d@mages for the violation of his fundamental rights, alongside N2 million to cover litigation costs.

By granting all the reliefs sought, the court reinforced the right of Nigerians to freely document police actions in public spaces without fear of intimidation or retaliation.

Reacting to the ruling, Mr Uwaifo described the judgment as a major step forward for accountability.

“This judgement has significant implications for policing standards, civil liberties, and public accountability across Nigeria,” he said in a statement shared with newsmen on Tuesday.
“The court made far-reaching pronouncements on police accountability and citizens’ constitutional rights.”

Kudos to Delta state court ruling on civil matters, they deliver justice unlike some other courts in some states in Nigeria where matters will b dragged for long time without delivering justice suffocating the oppressed with adjournment.!adjournment..!! adjournment!!! (Especially Anambra state, Nnewi to be precise)

People like YoungBlackRico, erad, success1smyn, TimiofAbuja
It's not the same, stop arguing this abeg.
You can film a public activity if it's in public interest, if an illegal act is being carried out or if it's to prevent an illegality.
Filming an individual carrying on his day to day activity for your own personal reward is not in public interest nor to address a crime.

Generally speaking, when you're in a public soace ANYBODY can film you. Simple!
Same reason you can film police, NOT because they are police, but because they're in a public space. You have no right to go into a police station, for instance, and start filming Police!

Go to the gate of a station and start filming then, claiming it's a public space because you are outside the station or go stand on Walter Carrington crescent in VI and start filming claiming public space.
You can't even film a police officer going on his own without engaging in any activity in the name of public space. No right granted by the constitution is absolute, all comes with limit

My friend, people in a PUBLIC SPACE! Is Police station a public space?
Did I say anything about absolute? Didn't I say "generally speaking"?
Anytime you're in PUBLIC SPACE where there is no reasonable expectation of privacy, just know that ANYBODY can film you and there is NOTHING you can legally do about it!

It doesn't matter whether you are recording live or not, many people recorded their own death on Livestream, I have discovered this country don't give 2 forks about human life so it's best you ask for God's protection and protect yourself.

That judge will send so many people to the Hebrew sheol.
