APGA To Abaribe: You Were Suspended, Not Sacked, Don’t Mislead Senate by Ofunaofu(op): 12:45pm On Mar 19
…Indefinite suspension rendered me party less — Senator fires back

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has cautioned Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South, against misleading the Senate and the public with claims that he was expelled from the party.

The party insisted that the senator was never sacked but placed on suspension over alleged anti-party activities.

Addressing a press conference in Umuahia, APGA Chairman, Ambassador Sunday Onukwubiri, alongside the party’s 2023 deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Obinna Ichita, and the State Publicity Secretary, Chukwuemeka Nwokoro, challenged Abaribe to produce evidence supporting his claim of expulsion.

They urged the Senate President to declare Abaribe’s seat vacant should he fail to “honourably resign,” accusing him of betraying the party that provided him a platform.

“This is not a witch-hunt. We are acting in good conscience. Senator Abaribe betrayed the party and should relinquish the mandate,” the party leaders said.

APGA further alleged that the senator was lobbying party leaders in his Ward to procure a sack letter to validate his claims, describing the move as unethical.

The party maintained that there was no leadership crisis within its ranks to justify Abaribe’s defection, noting that all internal disputes had been resolved by the Supreme Court in early 2023.

Speaking, Hon. Ichita argued that the mandate belongs to the party and the electorate, not the office holder.

“You cannot assume an imperial status because you occupy an office. This is a democracy, not a monarchy,” he said.

Ichita disclosed that Abaribe voluntarily resigned from the party after his suspension, insisting due process was followed.

“He was invited to respond to allegations but failed to do so. He later resigned and is now attempting to mislead the public by claiming he was sacked,” Ichita stated.

He further advised the senator to vacate his seat to avoid what he described as “national embarrassment.”

APGA also revealed it had entered into a “strategic alliance” with another party ahead of the 2027 elections, promising to unveil details in due course.

On his part, APGA Publicity Secretary, Nwokoro, reiterated the party’s position, stressing that Abaribe had no legal basis to retain his seat after defecting.

“The law is clear. Having voluntarily left the party, he cannot continue to hold the mandate. He should vacate the office before he is disgraced,” Nwokoro said.

Chairman Onukwubiri also accused the senator of neglecting the party, claiming there was no functional APGA structure in his ward despite his position.

However, reacting to the allegations, Senator Abaribe maintained that his indefinite suspension effectively rendered him partyless, justifying his decision to seek another political platform.

“When you place someone on indefinite suspension for over six months, what does that mean? It simply means the person no longer belongs to the party,” he argued.

Abaribe who chairs the Senate Committee on Power, dismissed claims that he was seeking to fabricate a sack letter as “scandalous and insulting.”

” My name is Enyinnaya Abaribe. There are certain things you should know I cannot do”, he said.

He also refuted assertions that he lobbied for APGA’s ticket in 2023, claiming instead that party leaders approached him to join their fold.

Abaribe further downplayed APGA’s role in his electoral victory, attributing his success to personal popularity among constituents.

He cited precedents of lawmakers defecting without losing their seats, including a court ruling involving Senate President Godswill Akpabio, to justify his position.

Is it because I did not defect to the APC? Others have defected without consequences. Why is my case different?” he queried.

Abaribe is one of those who haven't achieved anything tangible staying in the senate. He has no developmental project whatsoever in his constituency. All he does is, go back to his constituency during elections, tell them that Ndi Igbo are marginalized, say some good things about Nnamdi Kanu and it's a done deal automatically grin

You will never see the people from his side agitate that he should step down and allow fresh hands in that senatorial district even when there are evidence of non-performance( unsubstantiated), however if it happens to be someone from the SW who has spent a decade in the senate, they will be screaming and asking him to step aside as if they are from that section of the country. They know how to protect their own people that have failed and continue to fail them as long as the person is not from the ruling party. Instead of everyone to join voices together and demand accountability from our respective leaders, we resort to tribal war while these politicians keep playing the masses.

How is it a valid truth when you don't know him. You are judging a man based on pictures and videos you see online.

You may not even know his state talk more of local government but you are here talking about his constituency projects.

If he is APC member, you will say a different thing.

But there is no way he can do that because he need to return to Senate and the indefinite suspension is something u can not say when it will be lifted, maybe after election. You can see that was a game plan by OUK and ÀPC to make sure he did not participate.

Abaribe is way ahead of you and your paymasters, both in delivery and political sophistication.
From being a Deputy Guvnor till today, you can see that his people love him and want him over and over again.
Even if he leaves ADC today and go to your APC, he'll still strive.
Just leave him and try another person!

Don't mind him. He is confused.

For a party whose national leadership has recently come out in the open to state that they are only waiting for the APC to have its convention so they can adopt Tinubu as their presidential candidate to accuse Enyinnaya Abaribe of anti party activities speaks volumes of how clueless APGA is.

Who takes them seriously?

If nearly all opposition governors and senators can move to the APC in just a couple of months, then Abaribe is more than justified to move to the ADC.

Mediocrity can be best illustrated with celebrating a President who shares Palliatives to citizens in the absence of Disaster and War, .... not with a man who has done well for his Constituency.

explain what made him a mediocre in 5 sentences.

Because he didn't defect to APC?? and because he has never criticized OBI, and also he's mostly the strong voice that challenges Akpabio and Tinubu in the senate and that's the only way to clamp him down. Are you people that 100 percent sure of loosing that anything breath is a threat?

Swear in your father's and mother's grave that if this defection is to APC, will all this be happening.

Also explain to me why the govenors and senators that defected to APC with excuse that they are aligning to the centerhuh?

Use 3 paragraphs to explain how that seems reasonable and the difference between abaribe and them.

Good evening, I'm from his constituency. Abaribe is a known face in Abia South which includes: Obingwa, Ugwunagbo, Aba North, Aba South, Osisioma Ngwa etc.
Most secondary schools in Aba have boreholes. He while in PDP joined hands with late Ossy Pristege to provide free buses for students in Aba. He host yearly made in Aba goods exhibition in Abuja.

Politics aside, Abaribe drives himself when in Aba without security guards. Ikpeazu forced him out of PDP, he contested against Ikpeazu under APGA and defeated a seating governor (Ikpeazu).

What we are seeing now is the only avenue to stop him come 2027 because no politician is as popular as he is in Aba.

NB: late Ifeanyi Uba left YPP and move to APC and it wasn't issue; infact he was celebrated, YPP had no crisis then. Ppl talking about new electoral law failed to realize that this law guiding defeation has been there and didn't evolve as a result of the new electoral law, thank you.

Funny how “developmental projects” suddenly become the only metric when it suits your narrative.

I’m not here to speak for Abaribe, but if his constituents consistently choose him because he amplifies their concerns, especially on issues like marginalization, then clearly he’s representing what they value. That’s literally the job.

And let’s be honest: how many senators in this current Senate can you confidently point to and say they’ve delivered these so-called developmental projects you’re talking about? Or is this just selective outrage because he doesn’t align with your political preferences?

Representation isn’t one-size-fits-all. If his people rate his voice as much as or even more than, physical projects, who exactly are you to invalidate that?

What he said is true. That's why he clings to the popular wave in the south east. He said that he won the election on personal popularity, if it's so why didn't he win the PDP primary? He lost and ran to APGA.
