Folorunso Alakija Emerges As Africa’s Second Richest Woman In Forbes Ranking by AnonPoet(op): 8:36pm On Mar 19
Nigerian billionaire entrepreneur Folorunso Alakija has been ranked the second richest woman in Africa in the latest list released by Forbes, reaffirming her position as one of the continent’s most powerful business figures.

With an estimated net worth exceeding $1 billion, Alakija has maintained her status as the richest woman in Nigeria for several years. Her wealth stems largely from her investments in the oil and gas sector, alongside ventures in fashion printing and real estate.

She is the founder and managing director of Rose of Sharon Group, a diversified conglomerate with interests spanning multiple key industries.

Leading the ranking is Angolan business magnate Isabel dos Santos, whose fortune is estimated at $2.2 billion. Nigerian entrepreneur Bola Shagaya occupies the third position with an estimated net worth of $630 million.

The ranking underscores the rising economic influence of women across Africa, particularly in sectors such as energy, finance, and manufacturing. Notably, South Africa recorded the highest number of entries, with six women featured on the list, highlighting its strong presence in the continent’s business landscape.

According to Forbes, the list focuses on women with a minimum net worth of $10 million, celebrating those who have not only built significant wealth but also contributed meaningfully to economic development in their respective countries.

Born on July 15, 1951, in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Alakija has built a formidable reputation through decades of strategic investments and entrepreneurship. Her journey from the fashion industry to becoming a key player in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector reflects resilience, innovation, and sharp business acumen.

Beyond her business success, she is also widely recognized for her philanthropic work, supporting initiatives in education, healthcare, and community development.

Alakija’s continued presence among Africa’s wealthiest women highlights her enduring influence and the growing role of female entrepreneurs in shaping the continent’s economic future.

What has the Forbes ranking done for her community ? Last week emoney completed completed a 10 kilometer road for his community joining hundreds of others doing for their communities what the failed government couldn’t do…no be by mouth or forb listing but by making your community a better place and increasing opportunities for others . Last year alone mighty mighty umuchu built and donated more than 100 bungalows to people in his community, Bishop ozubulu is tarring roads the whole of his community like crazy with street lights, instigator PH built 10 kilometers road and donated to his community, Clann Chief Vintage Nwaogugu donated more than 400 pieces of keke and many grinding machines to women to empower his community in Mbaise , Go abiriba, mbaise Wawa land and other communities, the story is the same and none of them is on foops magazine and countless other silent community developers doing their job in silence without any noise

I think there is also danger in doing things in the community that the Government ought to have done. Nigerians are special people, them no get shame. They will happily welcome all of you to come and use your personal money while they continue to siphon and embezzle public funds given to them for the same purpose.
What we need to do is put a lot of pressure on them to continue to force them to work like never before.

You can see his bigotry showing in full display. He knows practically nothing about the woman yet he started measuring and mentioning names nobody sent him. If he adds all the money those he is mentioning spent altogether is it up to just almost 10,000 people she has sponsored on schorlarship from secondary school till university graduation. and that's just 1 out of other numerous ones. A simple google check would have stopped him from displaying his ignorance for the world to see.

She's a native of Ikorodu.
Native Lagosians are not that hungry to start waiting to survive on philanthropic act, our state government is what we hold responsible for community development not charity.
So it's our business if our native billionaires like otedola, alakija do or do not do anything for community.
Thanks for protruding into that matter, but we're not bothered.

[b] Hmmm, so a private individual that acquires wealth due to their diligence and hard-work should be expected to pay dividends to his/her community and failure to do so, s/he shouldn’t be worthy of recognition and accolades. This thing called “entitlement “ is real oo

You are wrong. Mrs Folorunso Alakija is 74 years old beautiful, god fearing woman. She has helped so many lives. I m a bank manager, God I wish I have this kind of customer as her account officer. The fully equipped teaching hospital she donated to Osun state university is one of the best in Nigeria. God will bless her and her family

All those igbo business men u mentioned are still learning philanthropy from alakija it seems u didn't even do a proper research on her before writing all these? Only the modern hospital she built in osun that was recently commissioned by the osun state governor dwarfed what those igbo business men has done in their communities.
