We can't hang on to a lead to save our lives. Once we get there we just start playing nonsense

TheSuperNerd:
We letting the Germans back in. Lead q3 by 1 but losing by 3 across the board.
We need a couple of special players to start beating the Western European teams at the Olympics and FIBA World Cup. European teams are very technical. I pray we win this contest against Germany. We need to bring in 2 special players into this DTigress squad to go past the quarter finals in Berlin come September.

Very nonsense challenge. Hopefully Rena didn't initiate that
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by Procashtips(m): 6:48pm On Mar 17
No good 3 pointer scorer on the team.

Defense is porous too

Coaching was part of the problem today. Why call timeout in the middle of that final run. That just took away our momentum.

There is no excuse for losing to this German side. They don't even have Satou, this should have been a cake walk.

Nneka Ogwumike would go down as one of the WNBA’s true legends in more ways than one! She has basically led from the front in achieving the most lucrative compensation structure in any women’s professional league 🙌🏽🙌🏽

Blessing Ejiofor is easily replaced by Uche Izoje, who is having a breakout season in her NCAA conference
Won't USA Basketball snatch Izoje from Nigeria when she blossoms into a major talent ? It seems the American basketball authorities always develops an interest in American players with Nigerian roots when they become very good and are likely to don Nigerian colours shocked shocked.

I’ve heard (not sure of the accuracy) that Izoje has been in contact with the NBBF and Wakama; and the reason she couldn’t join up with the WWCQT team was because of the NCAA tournament

Uche was born and raised in Nigeria. The only other country in play is Japan because she moved there when she was 14 to play basketball.

I’m not sure how D’Tigress would handle Ziyu Zhang if we meet China at the World Cup! Putting 2 players to mark a 7’3” giant would only open up space for another team mate of her’s for an easy lay up

Correct. USA is not in play at all. She's not even a permanent resident talk less more a citizen and unlikely to be one in time for her to be considered for team USA.

The other country in contention really is Japan and even they are unlikely as she has no parental connection to them. There's a Nigerian who is currently on the Japanese national team "Monica Okoye" but that's possible because she was born there, grew up there and had a Japanese mum. Izoje has none of this.

As the deal got signed, what was on my mind was how as many D'tigress players get opportunities to sign for WNBA teams so they can benefit from this largesse. The minimum WNBA salary is now over $300k, we need our girls to get this money biko. It's one of the reasons I was hoping they did better at the qualifying tournament. But fingers crossed, hopefully they show at during their friendly against the lynx so more teams get to see them as worthy prospects.

Amy is likely to get signed by Dallas again, Musa? I'm not sure but let's see. Victoria has gotten so many training camp offers but for some reason has never made it to a team, let's see if that changes but age consideration may not favour her.

Thanks for the head up. I read a ton of articles about Uche Izoje last night. She is really good. She will be a pillar of strength for DTigress in future tournaments. We have lots of gifted female teenagers in Nigeria who have not been able to harness their skills because we don't have basketball leagues in our secondary schools. We need to have up to ten different basketball leagues for secondary school students in Nigeria. I run a children's book club ( An NGO ) in Lagos, Nigeria and it is growing gradually. I am thinking of running a basketball league for secondary schools ( Both public and private ) in the Local Government I live in. Still working on a document concerning this Project. We need to emulate the USA and Canada by creating pipelines of talent production and nurturing in Nigerian basketball. Cheers.

We can discover more talented youngsters between the ages of 12 to 17 in Nigeria through secondary school basketball leagues and send them on to the USA to play collegiate basketball and subsequently play in the WNBA and NBA and leagues in Europe. This will create a pipeline of talent for DTigers and DTigress. I am talking of permanent secondary school basketball leagues not once a year basketball tournaments like the one run by Nestle and Milo.

For sure, Vicky’s age may count against her. But the likes of Musa, Enabosi, Pallas, or as you mentioned, Amy, based on their shift at the last QT, may get a look-in by some WNBA franchises.

D’Tigress remain world number 8 in the FIBA rankings.. The World Cup draw, which will be held on April 21, will based on these rankings that were released today 😎

This also means more opportunities overseas because less Americans will need to go.

Well, I used to think this was so till Stewie signed a deal with Fernebeche recently. Imagine a founder of Unrivaled signing for a league (however short) in Europe. As long as the money is good players won't stop playing in Europe. Same thing happened last season, Kayla McBride literally left Unrivalled to Fernebeche and played till the WNBA started she was so odd the Lynx had to rest her for some games to recuperate.

The only way this stops in my opinion is if the WNBA includes exclusivity to their deals. That way, players can't sign for other teams even if they want to.

Without an offensive bag Pallas is not getting looked at. Nicole too is unlikely. But who knows, maybe she gets a chance and impresses, but I doubt it.

I said less, I didn't say none at all nah lol. We were already seeing the number drop with the addition of unrivaled so it will only keep getting lower.

Offensive bag is not a must. As long as u can defend, rebound and run the floor u can be useful as a big. Palace would average the easiest double double if she played with someone like Caitlin Clark.
