Most people who say they want to visit Africa mean they want to go on safari. A small number mean the pyramids.

Almost none of them can tell you much about where they would go in #Ghana, or why Rwanda has quietly become one of the most discussed destinations on the continent.

The #tourism map of Africa is heavily concentrated, and this chart shows exactly where.

Morocco leads with 17.4 million visitors. #Egypt follows at 15.7 million. #Tunisia at 10.25 million.

Three North African countries accounting for the overwhelming majority of the continent's international arrivals.

The Mediterranean proximity helps. So does the infrastructure, the marketing budgets, and decades of being on European holiday itineraries.

Re: Most Visited African Countries By International Tourists by wellmax(op):
The gap here is not about what the continent has to offer.

#Africa has more variety, history, landscape, and human culture than most travellers will ever fully explore.

The gap and absence of some countries from this list is about investment, infrastructure, visa policy, and the story being told to the world about what is actually here.

The #tourists are going where it is easy to go and where someone spent real money making sure they knew about it.

That is a solvable problem.

giANT of Africa (for mouth) is nowhere to be found on positive lists like this.

Which sensible tourist would want to even visit a terrorists' enclave?

This is not a Nigerian-bashing thread.

Who's bashing Nigeria?. I'm just stating the obvious. It's a fact, Not an opinion. Is the tourism industry in this country not almost dead as a result of insecurity?. Is Nigeria not the Fourth most terrorised country in the world??

Some people here are preparing again to vote for the leader of that terrorist enclave...

Nigeria was not listed because of insecurity. God help us.
Re: Most Visited African Countries By International Tourists by Mathewrichard99: 12:07pm On Mar 22
Morocco that is so unfriendly to fellow Africans especially Black African......besides, those 3 Arabs countries aren't African in the real context of ethnical verification, Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt including Algeria and Libya are all Arabs of the Mediterranean Axis..and they never wanted to be regarded as Africa from the time immemorial. Morocco even begged to be included in European Union. All these countries listed above have their allegiance to the Association Of Arab nations only....

Nigeria has no historical landmark to visit. Oyo and Ife that could attract foreign tourism are like 16th century villages.

Politicians hv looted all Nigeria fortunes, everywhere is looking like abandoned ghetto. Red sands everywhere. O ma se oo

Nigeria is not even on the list anymore? See how far the country has been battered.
Re: Most Visited African Countries By International Tourists by decatalyst(m): 12:12pm On Mar 22
Insecurity is a bane to development and FDI attraction. Tourism is not excluded.

As a retire General, Buhari failed to etch his name in the history books of Nigeria.

He could have just help eradicate terrorism and banditery but it became worse.

The current one is failing more...fix power and your name will forever remain on the right side of history.

Tourists all over the world now avoid Nigeria like a drop of faeces on the floor.
Re: Most Visited African Countries By International Tourists by tenmariner: 12:13pm On Mar 22
Another thing is the flight cost. If u are traveling from England to Morocco, u may find a flight of 50 pounds to 150 pounds . Traveling to East Africa which has the safari can be more expensive.

Nigeria President possessed the highest bilateral presidential travel visits in the entire world.

Say what you know. Morocco refused to practice the Iran brand of Islam. They opened their world to tourists where they showcase their culture etc. I have been there myself.
Nobody wants to cut off your hand for drinking beer.

I saw some beautiful pics that my late dad took with some foreigners either in the mid 70s or early 80s at Yankari Games Reserve in Bauchi state.

Obudu Cattle Ranch and Gashaka National Park in Taraba state are good tourist spots but it is unfortunate that these place might no longer be functional.

It is well
Re: Most Visited African Countries By International Tourists by kernniejay(m): 12:15pm On Mar 22
So all these foreign travels by the president and other government officials to attract tourism and foreign investment have all been a wasted effort and waste of tax payers money.
Re: Most Visited African Countries By International Tourists by badoh(m): 12:15pm On Mar 22
Insecurity in Nigeria is enough to drive tourist away from Nigeria. Nigeria should be a ground for good tourist attraction considering our good weather but the inability of our past and current leaders tap into it is driving tourists away. All they know is to steal and leave their people in abject poverty.
Re: Most Visited African Countries By International Tourists by Ventura1: 12:15pm On Mar 22
Had Nigeria not been amalgamated, Odua Nation would have been on the list.

The little visits they were able to secure through detty December, they abused it with greed, exploiting tourists at every opportunity.

If other countries did same, the figures would have been different.

Which CAF?

So 17.4m people suddenly realised that there's a country with huge tourist attractions after they heard that there is a football tournament happening there?

Please don't downplay a country's years of carefully planned intentional development over some frivolous tournament.

It goes way beyond that!
Re: Most Visited African Countries By International Tourists by samwash(m): 12:17pm On Mar 22
I was thinking South Africa will number one on the list and Southern & central African countries will dominate the list.
The northern African countries are the dominant, maybe because their cities are built like the European cities, wel sha north African countries has the most beautiful cities in Africa.
It's time my darling country brase up in terms of tourism. Our Tinapa tourist location is nothing to write home about.
