Ex-Accountant General, Nwabuoku Sentenced To 72 Years Imprisonment by Newsgeek24(op): 1:00pm On Mar 23
federal high court in Abuja has sentenced Anamekwe Nwabuoku to 72 years in prison for money laundering.

Presiding judge, James Omotosho, delivered the judgment on Monday, holding that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had proven its case against Nwabuoku.

Nwabuoku faced a nine-count amended charge of money laundering and fraud involving N868.4 million. He had been granted bail in the sum of N500 million with two sureties of like sum.

In the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/240/2024, the EFCC accused Nwabuoku of conspiring with companies including Temeeo Synergy Concept Limited, Turge Global Investment Limited, Laptev Bridge Limited, and Arafura Transnational Afro Limited to convert funds suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities. The offences contravened section 18 of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011, as amended, and are punishable under section 15(3) of the Act.

The commission alleged that Nwabuoku committed the offences while serving as director of finance and accounts in the Ministry of Defence between 2019 and 2021.

Nwabuoku’s no-case submission, filed earlier, was dismissed by the court in November 2025.

He had been appointed acting accountant-general of the federation on May 20, 2022, by then President Muhammadu Buhari following the suspension of Ahmed Idris over alleged N80 billion fraud.

However, he was removed from office in July 2022, weeks after assuming the role, amid EFCC investigations.

Please allow this man to repent and go scot free. If mass murderers can get out of jail free simply by repenting to qualify for a government pension, then surely a fraudulent accountant is MORE deserving of freedom after repentance.

Without derailing this thread, I think this sentence came from a biased judge playing a script.
I hope this isn't because he is Igbo!
He should have joined the APC publicly and pledged his allegiance to the president by singing the song “on your mandate he shall stand”, viola! His sins would have been forgiven.

Why officer who stole less than ₦1b already got his sentence, the second officer in same office with ₦80B suit yet to receive judgment. Even though the offence was committed almost at same time.

This is rather an encouragement to steal more. The guy is sentenced to 8 years imprisonment on nine (9)counts which makes a total of 72 years. However, the ruling also said the terms will run concurrently which means he will only serve a total of eight years in prison.

Now this is Nigeria and influential prisoners are often released widway through their terms on grounds of good behaviour and show of remorse. The guy will be out within 4 to five years. Even though he'd be in the VIP lodge of the prison through those terms, that's if he should even be held within the walls of any correctional center to start with.

Now imagine an offer to stay 5 years in a VIP prison for a reward of almost a billion Naira? and that's even if you got caught stealing public funds to start with.

In China, we know what they do to corrupt public officials

100 years would have been the perfect number angry

Civil servants are the people that destroyed Nigeria, not even the politicians like we all think, it is civil servants.

Go to Nigerian Ministries, Parastatals or any government agency or organization and see the level of office corruption going on there.

Nigerian civil servants loot more money than the politicians. In fact, the politicians succeed in looting Nigerian treasury simply because Nigerian civil servants or what we call government workers help them to loot and steal!!!

What about the Ahmed Idris case?
Allegedly stole ₦80bn, yet walking free, even married a 16 year old secondary school girl some years back.
A tale of two different parts of the same country!

My advice to Nwabuoku is to go and join Apc, all his sins will be forgiven. Go and ask orji uzo kalu, useless judges, useless party.

MOD is one of the most corrupt ministries. Many like him ruined their career by finding the tempation of sleaze irresistible.

Hopefully, he will be reformed in prison . This is a reminder to everyone who still believe you can commit a crime and get away wit.

It is only when you become ex and no longer serving or a member of the opposition party. Nigeria has no ideology or standards, a fundamental reason why citizens have lost all confidence in the justice system.

Was Yahaya Bello not excorted by the police forces attached to the incumbent governor when EFCC came for him? He is a member of the ruling party and will be contestanting for senator.

Orji Uzor Kalu was also convicted of about N11bn fraud then and was detained, today he is walking a free man and a serving senator. cheesy cheesy cheesy
Nigeria is a live comedy show
