This year in Aba, Abia State, I noticed a new business in town. They come with speaker with a pre-recorded audio that plays "Condemn phone, condemn laptop, condemn engine, we are buying it in a good price.
If your phone fall down inside water, bring it we are buying it in a good price. Condemn phone, condemn laptop. Baje baje..."

And it's seems it's only northerners are into it.

What's your state of residence? What year did they come into your state of residence?

I'll guess they're sponsored by gold merchants and recyclers.

Them plenty here for Kaduna.

What bothers me though, is why they don't buy chinese-made laptops? They prefer those begium laptops.

I have one old abandoned phone, they priced it 1000. I told them byie byie 😁

And dey will be making noise upandan that they're buying it in a good price.

Before the rampant merchandising of Condemn handset and co, there's a guy I met in yaba/ojuelegba Market, Lagos in 2021. He specifically deals on condemn electronics...and he pays wella than these merchants moving around.

I took his number, but I've not really had need to reachout so far.

They extract copper and gold from the old phones. They don't really need the phone as it is.

I started noticing dem last year or upper.

The one I notice is this aboki bike men
Up until last year calabar as a city has never had bike men that were not Akwacross now every place you enter you’ll see aboki bike men with new and old bikes

I then start to wonder this thing is coordinated,

That's their Hussle, let them be, it's far better than joining their brothers who are bokoharam and bandits in the north

There are valuable metals in those old phones, systems.

It’s owned by Chinese people and companies operating in Nigeria.

A large percentage of recycling companies are owned by them.

They are fetching the golds inside the handset. They don't need phones that are still working

The panels of those condemned phones and laptops are recycled to extract gold and other valuable minerals

I was in a very remote part of the town recently, and to my surprise I came across one of them with a speaker moving up and down the quiet street,, "condemn handset, baje baje laptop ... bla blah.."

Omo fear catch me. A northerner? I never expect to come across a stranger in this particular part of the town.

They started early January of this year in rivers state, kind of weird where this Hausa people get there business format from.

I wanted to give one of them my working PC with just a thin line on the screen. His offer was 5K. He claimed he needed just the panel and wasn't interested in other parts. I bade him farewell...
