Happy new month to you guys,I will like to ask what are the path to permanent residency in Japan and how many years is it .secondly, can one work two three jobs in Japan like u.k,u.s or Canada to net more than average income of 250,000 yen per month or make more than or how does this really work |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Gerrard59(m): 5:07pm On Mar 01 |
evanpass:Do/Can people presently really work two to three jobs in the UK and Canada? It's possible here as a part time student. A Nairalander does it, but you get taxed higher. As a full-time employee, I'm not sure it's possible to work two jobs. Permanent residency? Laws are expected to change in 2027. Google "Japanese permanent residency point system" to know more about the route to permanent residency. Generally, the standard route takes ten years. It gets reduced with higher salaries, higher proficiency of the language, youth (age) and degrees. That's what the point system rewards and PR becomes attainable in say four years. |

Graduations are ongoing now till end of March 2026. Enrollment and matric for next session starts by April 2026. Next admission period is for September 2026. are you preparing or ready? You have made research proposal? Have you made a list of potential schools (national universities) and Professors to reach out to? Have you written IELTS? My humble 2 cents. |

blackbriar gerrard59 If I apply and get a Japanese visit visa from another country that I have their resident permit. Is it possible to apply for work permit inside Japan when I secure a COE? Even though my passport says I’m Nigerian. |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Gerrard59(m): 5:07pm On Mar 23 |
Zammy123:No. To obtain a residency permit so you can perform the work you got in Japan, you need a COE. A COE must be applied for while outside Japan and received in your country of residence. It is then exchanged at the airport when you come in. Being a tourist in Japan does not equate to being able to apply for a COE. Applicants cannot apply for a COE; an organisation does, gets the COE and sends it to the applicant to apply for a visa. A tourist visa cannot be exchanged for a work permit. A COE is mandatory for that purpose. Without a residence work card, aka Zairyu card, you cannot work in Japan. |

blackbriar:This IELTS exam, is really hard, I saw a testimony when someone wrote it 7 times and passed it the 7th time.. na wa.. well it is really a journey. |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Gerrard59(m): 6:16pm On Mar 23 |
Goldbw122:Define "pass" here. What was the minimum requirement for the program the person applied to? I have written both IELTS and TOEFL. It depends on the program and the country to which it applies. Japanese universities have pretty lax IELTS minimum requirements because the majority of applicants/students are Asians whose first language isn't English. A Nigerian should score higher. |

Sharp. Financial mistake avoided already. Thank you 🙏 Gerrard59: |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by blackbriar: 6:51am On Mar 24 |
Goldbw122:IELTS Academic for education purpose is not hard. The schools require 6.5 overall test score. Please read up on admission requirement. All the information is readily available on the admission page of nay university. Stop making assumptions. verify information Internet is readily available in Naija. You are referring to IELTS general for migration purposes to Canada and Australia. Where it is the individual scores for speaking, comprehension etc that matters. |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by uchman(m): 3:41am On Apr 03 |
blackbriar:All the schools I applied to in Japan never asked for IELTS or am I doing the wrong thing? They all exempted Nigerians as English speakers because our secondary and BSc was in English. Please I stand to be corrected. |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by blackbriar: 6:06am On Apr 03 |
uchman:When you say applied, what does that mean? Have you officially applied following the admissions requirement, by submitting your application form and requested documents to the Admissions Department? Please check what is spelt out and written in black and white in the admissions requirement. Usually, it is a minimum of 6.5 overall on IELTS academic. If you got the IELTS exemption, Congratulations. My humble 2 cents |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Digbick: 2:39pm On Apr 03 |
uchman:Some Japanese schools or Universities do not require IELTS especially if you are applying for masters. Just provide medium of communication in English from your undergraduate university and you are good to go. |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by uchman(m): 5:24am On Apr 06 |
blackbriar:Blackbriar my brother, Do you think that IELTS is still needed here? Please take your time to check the marked area. I sincerely appreciate your guidance. Thanks

| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Gerrard59(m): 1:46pm On Apr 06 |
uchman:From the screenshot, you don't need IELTS. They might categorise Nigeria as a non-native English speaking country, but argue that English is its official language and the British colonised us. So, we are taught English right from nursery to tertiary levels. It is India and the Philippines who have much to argue about, not Anglophone African countries. Even India shouldn't argue that much. |

Gerrard59:Thanks brother, You are 100% on point |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by blackbriar: 1:55am On Apr 07 |
uchman:Hi, Thanks for the screenshot of the admission booklet. This is very clear in black and white. you have the option of not writing the IELTS, as all you need to get is a n authorised document stating that your program was/is conducted in English Language. So, Congratulations here, if you can get meet the other requirement, IELTS not required here. However, do Nigerian schools write this on transcript, or would you have to go to Federal ministry of Education in Abuja? Please always follow the admissions booklet to the latter. TUFS, FUCHU , TOKYO. great and beautiful school. Great choice. Wishing you Godsped. My humble 2 cents |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by blackbriar: 1:59am On Apr 07 |
uchman:Please do not argue. You would look troublesome form day 1. and they may just push your admission aside. you never enter; you don dey argue. Get the letter from Federal Ministry of Education or form your school that meet the requirement that the TUFS is asking for. It is a clerk (a human) that will review your documents before even handing it over to be processed further by admissions team. This clerk has a checklist; they strike you out if one document is missing. |

Greetings all. I came across this tread few days ago. I am planning to seek a masters in Accounting or MBA admission in Japan this year (or next year, if this year is not feasible anymore, especially for the sake of scholarship) Going through the tread, i saw people mentioning searching for a professor in the department and putting oneself under his/her wing before applying. Does this apply to MBA or masters in accounting too? I have a first class degree in Accounting from OAU. A GRE score of 338 and years of work experience. Any guidance will be appreciated on how to go about this, as i am ready to go this route now. Scholarship recommendations will also be appreciated. I am already target the IUJ japan scholarship against 2027. |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Nobody: 5:52pm On Apr 11 |
Bond4141:With a first-class degree and a high 338 GRE score, you are a strong candidate for top Japanese business schools. For research-focused Master’s in Accounting, contacting a professor is essential, but for professional MBA programs (like IUJ), it is rarely required. |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Bond4141(m): 5:59pm On Apr 11 |
Alapereketu:Ok.... thank you so much. Let me do my research on good national/public university offering mba with good funding. Please any recommended scholarship to target? |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Digbick: 9:09pm On Apr 11 |
Bond4141:For MBA, no need contacting a professor but for others I think you might need to secure a professor first before applying which will also boost your scholarship stand as the professor might recommend you to some scholarship you can benefit from. All the best. |

Bond4141:Why a master's since you have work experience? A Master's isn't advisable for accounting grads unless they want to go into academia. With your solid GRE score (honestly, that's a terrific score and the reason I had to comment), you're better off applying to the MBA program at Hitotsubashi University, which is also a national university - standardised tuition fees. Another good school is Doshisha University. If you cannot get into any of those universities, which I really doubt, considering your GRE, just focus on any national university in Tokyo or Kanagawa. You need to be where the jobs are. P.S. To improve your chances, you need to know Japanese at a certain level, especially as immigration rules have been changed to mandate Japanese proficiency in job placements. Lastly, why Japan? Nigerians who score so high in GRE don't opt for Japan, and certainly not social sciences grads. p.s. Hitotsubashi, because if you score above 300 in the GRE or its equivalent in the GMAT, you get a half scholarship, and since yours is 2 marks away from a perfect score, the admission committee would be stunned and elated to have you. So a full scholarship is very possible. Hitotsubashi is acclaimed for its social science programs, even more so than the University of Tokyo. Also, check Keio University and Waseda University. You need to utilise your first class and GRE score to the fullest. So apply to strictly the top 1% of Japanese universities. don't dull o. Honestly, in my opinion, if none of the universities I listed here offers you a full scholarship with living allowances, attend Lagos Business School of the business school attached to the University of Cape Town. |
