It is very common for people to move around in bicycle. Look up cycling culture in the Netherlands on youtube, maybe you will learn one of two things from it.

Netherland mode of transportation is not bicycle, rather bicycle is an important part of the transportation system in Netherlands. They have a good public transport system, though a bit pricey compared to neighboring country but still efficient and way better than what you find in North American. Actually, bicycle is a big part of the transportation system in most European city.
