Senate President Godswill Akpabio has publicly thrown his weight behind the proposed creation of Anioma State.

DAILY POST reports that the proposed Anioma State is a long-standing initiative in the National Assembly, and it is being championed by the lawmaker representing Delta North Senatorial District, Ned Nwoko, with the aim of increasing the number of states in the South-East.

Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South Zonal Congress in Asaba on Wednesday, Akpabio said he has no problem with the proposed state creation.

The Senate President stated that the capital of Anioma would be in Asaba, the current capital of Delta State.

He further stated that the capital of Delta State would then be moved from Asaba to Warri.

According to Akpabio, the creation of Anioma State will bring development to the region, stressing that there is nothing to be afraid of.

He said, “If that is the only demand from the South-South for state creation, then I should be proud to support it.

“For Anioma State, the capital will be in Asaba; then the capital of Delta State proper will be in Warri. That’s not a problem.

I don’t think we should be afraid because the more states we have, the more development. Assuming it passes through the various Houses of Assembly, it means we are going to have one additional state.

“It is definitely going to be another broom and progressives from the South-Eastern part of Nigeria.”

even d Asaba sef is dominantly Igbo, everybody know dat one. So it'll only make sense to add it to its SouthEast brothers.

My mum's Family lives in Asaba, so i do enter Asaba frequently & i must say it's an Igbo land.
Even in their government primary schools d pupils communicate with Igbo language.

My younger brother left Lagos to go & School in Asaba(reason was to be close to my Grandma & help her).
When dis boy returned 4rm Asaba he was speaking fluent Igbo.

But i doubt they will ever agree to remove Asaba as d capital & use Warri instead,,
because Asaba is becoming massively developed & new projects springing up... owning to Igbos of course.

Warri is not part of Anioma territory.

Anioma is the Igbo speaking part of Delta State.

Delta North is the Anioma

i said d State government in Delta might be reluctant & unwilling to drop Asaba as d State Capital,
because of d development dat's already being achieved in Asaba... driven by Investments

It will never happen. That Was suggestion "if". All chairman, house of rep, councilors have thrown it into thrash can. After they signed against it in october. They have the full say. As for Ned, his governorship and 2nd term are dead, totally.he thought as tinuboo was stupid. They could use his stupidity to create a state for him. The way delta indigenes dislike Ned since this anioma whatever, added to his total failure as senator. Not even one, I mean, one achievement, even if na just one electric pole way no dey connected. See as our easterners neighbors dey jump like chickens.
