A former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State, Dr. David Umbugadu, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), barely three weeks after joining the ruling party.

Umbugadu, who contested the Nasarawa governorship election in 2019 and 2023, confirmed his resignation in a letter addressed to the APC chairman of Ika/Wangibi Ward in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area.

He cited concerns over alleged political manoeuvres aimed at undermining his 2027 governorship ambition as the reason for his decision to leave the party .

The resignation letter, dated March 24, 2026, indicated that he would be returning to the PDP, which he described as his political base.

Umbugadu had recently defected to the APC and was formally received at the Government House in Lafia on March 2, 2026, by Governor Abdullahi Sule, former governors Abdullahi Adamu and Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, as well as other party leaders.

His return to the PDP marks a swift political reversal, having previously left the party after years of membership.

Umbugadu initially joined the PDP in 2014 after defecting from the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and remained with the party until his brief stint in the APC.
His latest move is expected to reshape political alignments in Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 elections.

The unfortunate thing is that he has tainted his reputation with that.

The evul party promised to make his political journey easy since they stole his mandate the last time, David who agreed and thought they would either make him the guvnorship candidate or a senatorial candidate got stupefied when the guvnor Sule who initial said won't be contesting any other political position came out on channels to say he will now contest the senate.

The thing con do Umbugadu vooom for eye! 😂

it is obvious u have no intels in d happenings of Nasarawa state....if not for glitches and silly court judgements...that guy won last election very clearly....na just say Nigeria is not ready for real change

You have to be extraordinarily brilliant to join the APC and have a voice. Anything short of that will render you irrelevant.

The major backbone of the party! They never created a space for incompetent resources.

Like many other defectees, he was deceived and carried handicap by the APC who promised him senate ticket only for AA Sule to become interested in the ticket. He doesn't want to be one of those who will stay behind and work against the party. Seunmsg, food don done o.

That's how they'll keep jumping from one party to another. I told someone here that from inside sources I have both ADC and PDP, have planted moles in APC.. all these mass defections are just political calculations for the real politics.
