2800 is not the kind of money you should be raising an eyebrow for.

Most rules over the world is that you are bound to declare your cash if it's over 10,000 dollars. I have travelled with 20,000 USD in cash and it wasn't an issue. Malawi or whatever the country is, should free the guy joor. 2800 is not something to arrest someone over.

Irrelevant news making frontpage to push a tribal narrative. Since PO visited Kano the tribal bigots have resurfaced. NL frontpage is tribalistic and political, know this and know peace.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in Africa. Please stop defending wrong.
Even if Malawi is one of the poorest countries in Africa I do not think having just $2,800 should be enough to generate so much dust.

In most countries the maximum amount you can carry on your person as cash when coming in is $10,000 therefore I don't understand why they arrested the guy because he had $2,800 on him

i was replying to the fellow saying 2800 is not the kind of money you should be raising an eyebrow for. It's their own rule, we should learn to respect people's rules and behave as proper guests. Ignorance is not an excuse. Authorities say he's violating foreign currency regulations. Your emotions don't suffice. He was asked to declare what he was carrying, he denied having foreign currency. He did not produce supporting documents and claimed the money had been given to him by a friend without formal paperwork. He also seems to have said he comes from Village Amanator, Traditional Authority Ebonyi, District Lagos, Nigeria.
His offence is possessing foreign currency without permits and attempting to externalize foreign currency, contrary to the Exchange Control Act. In Malawi, you cannot bring in more than $5000 without declaring it. You cannot take out more than $2000 without declaring it. Those are their rules, a simple google search helps.

Malawi is curently going through a similar money crash as we the type we experienced during emefiel's tenure as well as earely tinuibu time too. They are currently very strict and completely agains forex exit from their country. So seeing that much usd will spook them. But this shd be resolved asap. Unless they have proof that the money they found on him was sourced from within Malawi

So $2800 is too big for Malawi?
Re: Nigerian Businessman Arrested In Malawi For Illicit Foreign Currency Possession by Bigkoko: 3:06am On Mar 28
Some of the foolishness our brothers do abroad!

You are well within your rights to have up to $10,000 physical cash when exiting any border, JUST THAT YOU HAVE TO DECLARE IT!

Declaring it is just filling a small paperwork, in fact making that declaration protects you in your destination,

I wonder why people dey munu like this, now dem go wan use this one behave like they are working!
