My late paddy a medical doctor in Lagos state health ministry employ back in the day said it was a regular occurrence then to beat or use force on some women. We argued that day but he tried to explain that sometimes it has to to with saving lives.
He said some women will be so lazy to push, some will be so pampered and spoiled they will be doing baby baby, meanwhile the child's head is stuck and time is a matter of life or death. He said in that situation will you be begging the woman? He said some women will be slapped and that adrenalin rush will make them push! He said to take injection nko, to get stitched some women will refuse, meanwhile life is at stake.
Have you seen women weight lifters? Before they carry weight, their coach will come from the back and give them heavy slap, the rush of adrenaline will give them power boost and they carry the weight.
I hear that in za oza room when nacking some guys will slap that ass, it will ginger the woman more, infact some will tell you slap my ass (I don't know ohh that is what I heard).
Anyway, I had my first child at saint Ives Ikeja back then, they had a nurse who's job was to hold the woman's hand and pet her, infact it was as if the nurses job is to be constantly begging the woman, set her hand for the woman to squeeze, bite, pinch etc lol. On the other hand my guys wife had theirs at crystal akowonjo road few months later. Omo after she gave birth she sent for the midwife abi nurse and landed her heavy dose of slaps, why? She said the lady dealt with her while giving birth, say na so so slap she de receive from the nurse say e remain make nurse bring koboko enter labour room, lol.

There is absolutely no reason to justify this sick reaction from the doctor undecided

The doctor must lose his license and should be arrested undecided

Bunch of woman-beaters everywhere!!
What if the mother tries killing the child and she was caught? Learn not to conclude

You certainly didn't read the story or report because it was clearly stated that the woman was successfully delivered of a baby and was bleeding from the tears when the doctor started beating her .

His license should be revoked because he is not fit to be a doctor.

Professionals should watch their mental health; this one was losing it gradually that it was almost full blown madness.

I did read the story, I only gave a preamble regarding the beating or seeming violence, use of Coercion. Yes, from the video it is said she had already given birth, but does that end the course of delivery?
What if she needed to be stitched immediately or bleeding had to be stopped but the woman was saying she had had enough and not complying putting her life at risk and the doctor had to be commandeering, intimidating, forcefully to save her life? Abi did you not hear him telling her to get in the table?
See, until you hear the doctor's side, his explanation of what happened, better not to jump to conclusions.

May the lady deliberately killed the baby why he was doing his duty. Just thinking aloud
That's a very lame guess... No matter what a pregnant and someone who just delivered did, would you beat a woman who came to you for healthcarehuh

It shows you can condone any crime, so far the victim somehow "caused it"

I'm sure that lady is without a husband.
That's why I pray no one gets sick and vulnerable , many health professionals are not humane and may have done a lots of harm on purpose or recklessly to there patients. That doctor should face drills asap

All you have said, shouldn't the humane thing to do be to sedate her or anasthesize her for ease of stitching? What's with all the beating to prompt action? Or don't you know that beating can as well achieve the opposite result, which is lack of cooperation and even violent retaliation from the beaten?

Your explanation from that doctor is highly disappointing and sounds highly unprofessional as well.

During my second delivery, I was equally uncooperative while I was being stitched up, WITHOUT PAIN RELIEF. Would you be cooperative in such a scenario? The nurse kept asking me to stay put, until I told her to go ahead and give me the pain relief. That was when I calmed down, and the stitching went on.

It's because the lady didn't have anyone from her side to defend her. If na your wife, you for siddon dey look.

Men imagine Charlie horse cramp in your testicle to your ass, then passing 8 pounds out your body, splitting your anus, no pain management just rough man putting needle into your ass stitching you up. You would jump too. He had no right to beat her. Everyone can't handle too much pain

Your father is perfectly right. The problem here is that this doctor took it too far. And the nurses that should have restrained the doctor didn't do so, probably because she has stressed them also. Be that as it may, the poor woman was in pains and didn't deserve that. All the healthcare workers there that day deserve some sort of punishment.

"Paddy" means close friend. Ie my late close doctor friend.
My late dad was a lawyer, businessman and industrialist not a medical professional.
I agree with you that no woman should face such during labour, and that is why when I was at the stage in life of having kids, I tried within my the means to use the best hospitals, where I knew my madam wount in any way be assaulted. Mumsy said then go and register her in general hospital, they are the best with plenty specialist, Omo, me I no gre.
Lets face the fact, till tomorrow in those general or local hospitals those nurses and doctors will be doing the same thing.
