Israel is a Biblical name; picked from the Bible. I don't think there is anything wrong with this except you want to say it is wrong to bear Joshua, Elizabeth, John, Mark etc.

How black Africans name their kids Israel is beyond my imagination

During my NYSC camp days, I met a lady from Bayelsa who introduced herself as Apili, and I immediately declared that she had one of the most lovely and unique South -South names I have ever heard.

On the last day of camp when she showed me her deployment letter, I realised that Apili was an abbreviation of APPEAL COURT.

APPEAL COURT JAMES, yea that was her name.

Not enough original content

Meaning: dull head
You are wrong. That's what I initially thought was the meaning when I heard and laughed over it. It's actually ori di okuta. If you are Yoruba you will understand the deep meaning beyond the literal interpretation. That's why many of them are yet to change it

When I was in school there was a family that named their kids Bismillah, Mashallah, Allahuakbar, Alhamdulillah, & Inshallah

If one of them cheats and has a child outside the marriage, maybe they will name them "Astaghfirullah"?

I think many of us have come across some really funny or unusual names that make you pause and wonder what they actually mean.

Back in university, I had a friend whose name was Nigeria. The first time I met him and he told me his name, I was like, “Haaaaa!” 😄 I thought that was the strangest name I’d ever heard until I travelled to the South-South and started hearing names like Natural, President, Government, Manager, Ajalekoko, and more.

I’m sure these names have meaningful stories behind them for the people who bear them.

So tell me what’s the weirdest name you’ve ever heard?
