If I am told I would see tickets sold over 400k in my life time for domestic flights I will beat the person But is was possible, powered by the self acclaimed lagos builder who forgot Lagos was the capital of Nigeria with all the privileges and deceived his dumb supporters that he built Lagos I hope these damages can be reclaimed after he is booted out |

Image123:Government policies and pronouncements result in the outcome of any economy anywhere in the world. That is why they are voted in and voted out. The economic decisions they take affect every citizen within their domains for good or bad. That is governance 101. I am cocksure if the economy improves, wages and earnings rise and inflation and prices fall your position about government will change. |

Image123:It isn't only in Nigeria that airlines are charging absurd fares. Nor is it only Nigeria that airlines are under extreme duress. The main reason why airlines in the States and Europe survive is due to government subsidy (or bailouts), without it most of them would have died a long time ago. |

| Re: Airlines On The Brink Of Bankruptcy As Aviation Fuel Price Soar by Reference(m): 1:13pm On Mar 27 |
mmsen:Okay, there you go. Subsidies, the dirty word of our present times. You said to keep these companies afloat and I will add....during pandemics, during economic super shocks, during natural disasters of all kinds. Then when the headwinds have died down and normalcy returns government comes with the bill in form of tax hikes and surcharges. That is the way to do the do. When is Africa, Nigeria going to think this way. That the economy is all about PEOPLE, not stats and graphs and even indices but people. So you do what is needful at all times to ensure jobs are secure, businesses are secure and investments are secure because they are very, very, very hard to get back when they are lost. |

mmsen:But these countries have been opening the taps of their strategic reserves to contain the shock for a while. We here that have the crude nko, even the strategic reserves that God has placed in the ground under our feet we have sold in advance and given the money to shady contractors to build white elephants, voodoo vendors to supply snake oil and consulting conjurers to hypnotize and swindle the people with all manner of schemes. By the way how is the CNG magic these vendors and fly by night consultants been peddling since 2023. Why hasn't it moved the needle of transport cost down one millimeter. |

Zionmdde:Aviation fuel (Jet A1) prices in Nigeria are primarily determined by independent marketers, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), and international market forces, rather than a fixed government price. Prices are influenced by high import costs, forex volatility, and logistics challenges. |

nairalanda1:^^^ ![]() This subsidy tale is sounding like one of my broken, warped vinyl records. You keep repeating it. We all know it by heart now. The issue now is - what do you propose to be done to the aviation sector? Subsidize airlines (which would go against the rules of a deregulated sector)...or let those airlines who cannot compete go into the wilderness to die? You have to say something useful now. Stories about protests in Ojota in 2012 will not do anything for us now. What would you do if you were the decision maker today? |
