I am not in a position to oppose Tinubu’s candidacy – Otti

The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, says he is not in a position to oppose President Bola Tinubu’s candidacy come the 2027 general elections.

Otti stated this on Friday during the March edition of his monthly media chat, following a recent statement by the member representing Isialangwa North and South in the National Assembly, Ginger Onwusibe, who said the state governor would not oppose Tinubu’s re-election.

Reaffirming the statement, Otti said, “I am not in a position to oppose the candidacy of the President. I am not running for President.

“Why would I oppose his presidency? I am also seeking a second term. So would it be appropriate for me to rationalise my answer and say that somebody else should not have his? So it has nothing to do with APC/PDP, or whatever you call it. It is a natural thing.

“Again, sometimes people, when they want to claim opposition, try to heat up the system by creating in their imagination problems that do not exist. Once you are in a government, it is the federal government, it is the sub-nationals and then it is the local government. I have always said that it is in principle one and the same government.

“We see it at every National Economic Council meeting. I may not agree with everything, but once a decision has been taken, I have to go by it. That is how democracy works.

Democracy is government of the people, for the people and by the people. The majority of the people must have their way, but the minority will have its say. So sometimes some of the problems that people are trying to create is because they don’t understand or they have interests that are beyond the interests of the people.

“Those interests that we call selfish interests. When they begin to push selfish interests, they come up with narratives that cannot stand scrutiny.”

On whether he is still in the Labour Party or has concluded plans to defect based on the problems in its hierarchy, the governor said, “The Labour Party had a problem, but that problem has been resolved by the Supreme Court. And INEC has also respected the decision of the Supreme Court.

“So the party is back on its feet and will be strong very soon. As we speak, registration is ongoing. And those who haven’t registered should please register. You still have a window to register.

“We will be having our congresses leading all the way to the convention any time from now. So, in the light of this superior information, the question about defecting does not arise.”

If Tinubu likes let all the witches and wizards endorse him, he won't win the 2027 election. At best he will come a distant third. Bookmark this

He simply means he's not in a position to oppose Tinubu's candidacy right now but he would do that when it's the right time.

Nigerians will decide.

Is only in Nigeria people will choose their own candidate and still get angry with you for making your own choice.

My governor my governor na man you be,tell them APC megalomaniacs what they want to hear but your heart remains with your people.Remain focus, keep delivering your electoral promises to your people and never be distracted.
The good thing is that Nigerians know where to cast their votes with or without their governors. I like the diplomatic way you made your statement, let Abuja power grabbers stay in their confusion, the power of they people is greater than they people in power!

Yes because of your wrong decisions every 4years is the reasons both sane Nigerians are suffering. It is also only in Nigeria that some of you choose rice you will eat immediately over good governance and 4 years of impoverishment.
It's highly annoying!

There's is nothing Alex Otti will do or say that would suprise me.

Adams Oshiomhole did far better than him when Adams Oshiomhole served as the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

But where is Adams Oshiomhole today?

We all saw how Anambra became the only state in Nigeria to look like Dubai when one of them struggling to be the president was a governor undecided

So voting your own candidate is good decision?
People voting Obi in Anambra was wrong decision that’s why today no one is using his achievements in Anambra to campaign for him .

You can never hear vote for Obi because he achieved this and that in Anambra from even his own supporters.

Only low IQ people think the way you do. $7b backlog that was cleared na beans? $50b and still counting reserves na joke?

Let me tell you the benefits of reforms because obviously as an Obidient your brain cannot accommodate it, when OBJ did banking reforms with Soludo, many shouted but that move alone saved our nation till today. We didn't see the results immediately. When GEJ brought power reforms that allows everything ObJ refused in power, 12 years after Abia started enjoying uninterrupted power.

Now our numbers are making sense and the reforms are making us see improved investment inflow into the country. Even the rice you always wanted to shout about is coming down.

There's Calabar to Lagos today and Badagry to Sokoto roads going on, economy needs fast and cheaper transportation to work. That will be another master stroke. See Lagos Ibadan expressway today, almost no free land there again as everything has been taken over by companies but it took more than 30 years of that road for that to happen. Immediately Buhari fixed the road, companies started moving in. Same will happen to those trans county highways I mentioned.

I hope your brains and those of everyone in your camp will understand.

See Kuramo beach where we used to flex before is now the most expensive in Africa, it won't happen overnight but will happen once structures are in place.

20 years ago, Lekki Epe was forgotten, but when the road camp under Fashola everywhere is totally occupied now.

Insecurities and other sectors are what needs to be improved upon but when terrorists and their financiers are arrested, you lots will claim they are victimizing them.
