₦250K Salary: Nigerian Man Questions Survival Reality by Kingzjayzee(op): 11:44am On Mar 28
A Nigerian man has ignited widespread conversation after revealing the sobering truth behind his monthly finances.

The young professional, earning a salary of ₦250,000, took to social media to break down his expenses and what he shared struck a nerve with thousands.

According to his post, his annual rent alone stands at a staggering ₦1.1 million. When broken down monthly, that’s already a significant chunk of his income accounted for. Add to that an estimated ₦75,000 spent on transportation, and the financial pressure begins to paint a clearer picture.

What remains[/i], he explains, is barely enough to cover essential living costs—feeding, electricity, internet subscriptions, clothing, fuel, and the ever-unpredictable emergencies life throws his way.

How is a 30-year-old man supposed to think of starting a family or even owning a car under these conditions?” he questioned.

This conversation reflects a broader reality facing many young Nigerians today: the increasing difficulty of achieving traditional milestones—renting a decent apartment, owning a car, or starting a family—despite being employed.

While salaries for many remain relatively stagnant, living expenses continue to climb, creating a silent pressure that is now finding its voice online.

And as the conversation grows louder, one question lingers:

Is it a matter of better financial planning or a system simply becoming too expensive to keep up with?

#250k nor be average o 😂
Minimum wage is #70k my man.

That's why I always insist on pursuing skills are are not geographically restricted - that way you can always relocate to cheap apartments/states to cut down costs - apparently, the place where he stays and hold this job has a high cost of living.

6months Salary minus Transportation to pay house rent? God abeg ooo. I no go try am. I personally cut down all and every unnecessary expense - rent shouldn't take more than 3months of your salary - my current annual rent is roughly one month's salary - but of course I can't snap Instagram pictures inside - but nor be my papa house.

And now that this is his reality, baba has to find other income stream. That's why I sofri dey run my legit freelance hustle - see my signature.

People don't sew their clothes according to their materials...

They prefer to package themselves.

Personally, using more than 3 or at most 4 months of salary for rent alone is living above your means.

Increase his monthly salary to 500k and watch him repackage and rebrand himself and watch him still complain.

Reduce that salary to 150k somehow he will find a way to cope and survive whilst still complaining!

Economy rough oooo but then, when you cut your coat according to ya Agbada, 250k should be manageable. Depending on where he lives sha.

If my salary na 250k, I have no business renting the house of 1m per annum.

Many of them lack financial discipline... Even if them increase their salary to 1million naira, them go change their house to the one of 7million per year and continue to complain how small the money is

People saying his rent is too high, he may have been paying about 600k if it's Lagos but the landlord has increased the rent. The trade off to keep the apartment is the lesser tfare to work.

If he moves farther for a cheaper apartment, the transportation budget would double or triple if care isn't taken especially if he resides in Lagos.
