Aba’s Garment, Footwear Industry Can Rival Oil Revenue — Peter Obi by Segunbabba(op): 10:11am On Mar 29
A former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said Nigeria’s garment and footwear industry in Aba, Abia State, can generate revenue comparable to the country’s oil earnings if properly managed and supported.

Obi stated this in a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, following his visit to Aba where he engaged with stakeholders of the Africa Democratic Congress.

The former governor said he visited the commercial hub on Saturday at the invitation of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, commending him and his team for the reception.

He also praised Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, for efforts to develop Aba, popularly known as Enyimba City.
During the visit, Obi said he granted a one-hour interview on Magic FM, describing it as his first appearance on radio and television this year.

He also commended members of the Africa Democratic Congress for what he described as a productive engagement. Highlighting the economic potential of Aba, he reiterated the need for Nigeria to transition from a consumption-driven economy to a production-based one.

When I speak about moving the country from consumption to production, Aba remains one of the cities that will contribute immensely to that, as it remains a hub for garment and shoe production.

Both products, garments and shoes, remain top and earn as much as we earn from oil for Bangladesh and Vietnam respectively and can do so for Nigeria if well managed and supported,” he said.

Obi, however, identified leadership as critical to unlocking the country’s economic potential, stressing the need for competence, compassion and commitment in governance.

Our challenge remains competent leadership with capacity, compassion, and commitment to national development, as seen in other comparable nations,” he said. He reaffirmed his belief in the country’s future, stating, “A new Nigeria is possible.

Here he goes again with another dubious claim. Aba footwear surpassing Nigeria’s oil revenue? If that were true, what is stopping them from fully pursuing such a lucrative venture?

This fraud needs to learn to distinguish between fantasy and reality, because Nigerians are far more concerned with facts than with superficial claims that can convince a baby goat.

The only thing that can come close to natural resources is talent, because the pricing is arbitrary, so a footballer or musician can be paid a ridiculous amount that is not determined by market value, same can't be said of any goods

Re: Aba’s Garment, Footwear Industry Can Rival Oil Revenue — Peter Obi by Ezewuzie01: 10:30am On Mar 29
So why didn't the demented Peter Obi generate such oil equalling revenue in Anambra, instead he was owing public sector doctors, university lecturers and water corporation workers that they had to go on strike for over a year and it didn't even bother him

Wrong and incompetent leaders at the center with misplaced priorities, whom would rather engage in tribal politicking, reckless frivolities, corruptions of the highest order, serial looting of our common patrimony and spending billions on PR lobby abroad, rather than implementing an effective industrial acts and funding that will enable industrial cities like Aba to attain great heights.

If govt doesn't allow for importation, Abia shoes will be expensive. Also, mind you the real raw materials Abia uses are also imported. People like Peter Obi and his cronies used cheap imports to make money and that destroyed manufacturing sector. Even Dangote is now producing locally but Obi doesn't even have a local palm oil mill. He's still one of the largest importers today in the country. He understands trade but obviously doesn't understand manufacturing because if he does, he would practice what he preaches. He may not be as corrupt but even Buhari wasn't corrupt but was also very confused.

Tinubu failed in security and health but on reforms he has done very well and reforms are actually what we needed to survive. With time reforms bring benefits, OBJ started banking reforms and that has helped us till date with stronger banks. GEJ did power reforms and decade later Abia is getting uninterrupted power..with time other states will follow. Na reforms we really need not lies they are all telling. Obi hasn't even promised any reforms.

If they have 2 million full time workers not doing other things and also having dependants they will be able to generate close to 5 billion dollars of GDP which will support over 5 million people in Nigeria

Oil itself would become outdated in future.
