The Action Peoples Party, APP, has taken legal action against the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, over alleged discrepancies in documents submitted for the forthcoming election.

The case, filed at the Federal High Court in Osogbo, listed the Independent National Electoral Commission and the APC as defendants, alongside Oyebamiji.

Court filings submitted by the APP through its representative, Abdulateef R., asked the court to examine whether the documents provided by Oyebamiji met constitutional requirements for participation in the governorship poll.

According to the originating summons dated March 16, the plaintiff urged the court to determine if the candidate’s nomination aligns with provisions of Section 182(1)(j) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria as amended.

The APP requested the court to nullify the publication of Oyebamiji’s name as the APC candidate for the election scheduled for August 15, 2026.

The party also sought a perpetual injunction restraining INEC from recognising or dealing with Oyebamiji as a candidate in the election process.

The suit also asked the court to compel INEC to remove the APC candidate’s name from the official list of contestants already released for the poll.

Reacting to the development, the APC in Osun rejected the claims, describing the suit as baseless and politically motivated.

Speaking on behalf of the party, its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, said, “We were not surprised that such a frivolous suit has been filed against our candidate’s eligibility.”

Olabisi added that the party believed the action was orchestrated to distract from the strength of its candidate ahead of the election.

“We state unequivocally that our governorship candidate is eminently qualified, having satisfied all statutory requirements necessary for contesting the election,” he said.

He alleged that the lawsuit reflected anxiety among political opponents, insisting that no legal challenge would prevent the APC from participating fully in the forthcoming governorship election.

Adeleke Govt’s Suit To Disqualify Oyebamiji Sign Of Impending Defeat - Ambo Team

The Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji Media Fronts has alerted the people of Osun State regarding what it described as “the latest desperate plot by the Osun State Government, acting through its surrogates, privies and political agents, to orchestrate the disqualification of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji on the basis of frivolous, unfounded and politically motivated allegations.”

According to a statement by Adebayo Adedeji, the Coordinator, AMBO Media Fronts, the lawsuit does not even question the academic credentials of Oyebamiji, despite government’s efforts to get faults.

Instead, Adedeji said it hinged on the claim that Oyebamiji submitted an appointment letter as MD/CEO of NIWA bearing his Muslim name, Munirudeen, “a name they allege does not appear on his other credentials. This is nothing but a ridiculous and frivolous suit,” he added.

The statement argued that, “The fact of the matter is that Governor Adeleke has possibly seen the handwriting of electoral loss on the wall, hence the panic mode activated by his bumbling government.

Across the state, independent surveys, opinion polls and direct feedback from citizens consistently affirm that AMBO is the preferred choice—widely regarded as the candidate best positioned to deliver competent, transparent, and forward-looking governance. They have rejected Adeleke, citing his administration’s poor performance over the past three years. For instance, the state reportedly spent a mere N7 billion on agriculture and food security in three years, while an outrageous N92 billion was expended on sustaining the governor’s “stomach infrastructure.”

Having realised that they have got no scorecard to campaign with, they are now desperate to reduce AMBO to their miserable level of “Oluwole and Penn Foster” academic scandal which has defined Adeleke in the last 8 years,” it stated.

The media team said that Adeleke’s government believes that “by manufacturing noise around names and documents, they can distract from the real issues and deceive the people of Osun State.” “They believe that such antics can salvage their rapidly diminishing public rating. They are mistaken. The good people of Osun are discerning and will not be swayed by such pedestrian tactics,” it added.

The statement urged the public to disregard the alleged distractions and remain focused on the issues that matter which are credible leadership, integrity and the future of Osun State.
