A heavy rainstorm on Saturday evening caused widespread damage to buildings across Osogbo, Osun State, displacing numerous residents.

Roofs of residential, religious, and commercial buildings were blown off in several parts of the city, including Testing Ground, Oke Oniti, Awosuru, Gbongan Road, and Oke Baale.

Residents were seen moving their belongings while repair work commenced on damaged structures.

A fallen billboard along Osogbo–Gbongan Road briefly obstructed traffic on the busy route until it was cleared.

Pastor Israel, whose church in Testing Ground was affected, called on the government to provide support for displaced residents.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, described the incident as “sad and unfortunate” and pledged support for affected residents through the Osun State Emergency Management Agency.

He said, “I feel deeply touched and alarmed by the incident. My administration will put in place all morally and officially possible measures to offset the losses incurred by victims in Osogbo and other affected communities. I have also directed the Ministry of Works to clear the motorways swiftly to prevent further accidents.”

The governor attributed the increasing frequency of natural disasters to climate change and urged residents to adopt mitigating actions such as tree planting and avoiding indiscriminate felling of trees.

A friend called me about 11pm last night

They are really affected, the roof and fence embarassed

They managed to clean up the rooms and found a spot to lay their heads till morning and another round of rain and breeze start again untill some mins after 1am

Really a sad and helpless experience

I hope God help and comfort affected families

To replace these no be small money and I hope another rain doesn't fall again before a fix is done

Yetunde my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family, and to all affected families

This happens at the beginning of every Raining Season. The early Rains usually come with storms and windy conditions as heralds.

So it was in my neighbourhood overnight.

May you find the means for the repairs.

Obedients will be like. They deserve it because of who they voted for in the last election. Very heartless set of humans.

Zincs are made of substandard materials, wood loggings (nogging) not well anchored, nails are of low quality and easily spoilt by alkaline, no enough cement in mortal.

Artisans cutting corners. House owners poor and they want to live in their house because won o fe sin kokoro ku (in their mouths).

There should be building code and minimum standard to follow when building.

There should be upright building inspectors, to go round and certify buildings from foundation to finishing.

That’s why we love to see how building are built and arranged in the western world.

If you don’t have money to build up to a building standard of a zone, as stipulated by our government, continue renting till you are buoyant. Stop putting yourself under unnecessary pressure because you want to do Christmas or Ileya in your house this year.

You're the one worried about a sect not worried about you. You should use this energy to provide first responder support to the displaced and join hands in building a better Osun.

Natural Disaster can happen to even the most elite and well articulated places. Face the issue and leave out the unfounded.
