At least 12 residents have been confirmed dead after unidentified gunmen opened fire in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North LGA, on Sunday night, according to TheCable. The report said the attack happened around 8pm at a popular bar, while several others were injured and taken to nearby medical facilities. Channels Television also reported panic in the area after gunmen allegedly rode through the community and fired sporadically at people.

In response, the Plateau state government imposed a 48 hour curfew in Jos North from midnight on March 29 to April 1, 2026. Troops from Operation Enduring Peace were also deployed, with security forces moving to cordon off routes and track down the attackers.

The attack adds to fresh concerns over insecurity in Plateau, where communities continue to face deadly violence despite repeated security interventions. The big question now is whether this latest curfew and troop deployment will actually prevent another round of bloodshed.
