The African Union Youth Volunteer Corps

The African Union Youth Volunteer Corps is a prestigious, fully funded programme providing young African professionals the opportunity to serve as volunteers across Africa while acquiring hands-on experience in policy, career growth, development, and leadership.

African youths passionate about the development of Africa and want to contribute to Agenda 2063: “The Africa We Want”, the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps is one of the most competitive and impactful youth opportunities available.

The African Union Youth Volunteer Corps was created in 2010, the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps is a flagship youth leadership initiative established to:

1. Employ, train, develop, and deploy young African professionals

2. Foster youth participation in the development and growth of Africa

3. Strengthen skills, leadership, and cross-cultural participation

Volunteers of the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps are deployed for twelve months in another African Union Member State, contributing to development programmes and policy initiatives.

African Union Youth Volunteer Corps Requirements
The following are African Union Youth Volunteer Corps requirements:

1. Candidate applying for the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps must be a citizen of an AU Member State (living in Africa or the diaspora)

2. Candidate applying for the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps must be aged between 18 to 35 years

3. Candidate applying for the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps must have at least a post-secondary qualification (TVET, Bachelor’s, Master’s, etc.)

4. Candidate applying for the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps must be available for twelve months of full-time volunteer service

5. Candidate applying for the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps must be willing to live and work in another African country

6. Candidate applying for the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps must be proficient in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, Kiswahili, Portuguese, or Spanish)

7. Candidate applying for the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps must have at least 1 year of volunteering experience

8. Candidate applying for the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps must have at least 1 year of professional work experience


9. Candidate applying for the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps must have strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

10. Candidate applying for the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps should be proficient in email and internet tools

11. Candidate applying for the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps must have excellent communication (written and verbal)
